LL QuickStart - Enterprise Training Solutions

About Live Learning Courses

Live Learning is similar to traditional instructor-led technical training, but rather than gathering students in one physical location, instructor presentations are webcast to participants anywhere via the internet. These presentations are also available as recordings for on-demand viewing and re-viewing.

Live Learning courses contain:

▪ Multiple instances of real-time virtual class sessions (course-dependent) led by a team of expert instructors (Live sessions)

▪ Recorded sessions (Encore Modules) for on-demand viewing or review of Live sessions content

▪ A rich set of supporting materials that can include Student Guides, Hands-On Labs, Class Notes, and a variety of assessments

Before You Get Started

To ensure you have the best possible learning experience, be sure your workstation meets the minimum technical requirements for launching and participating in Live Learning courses. Minimum requirements for both SkillPort and Dialogue must be met. Conduct a PC system test here.

This Quick-Start Guide is intended to provide only the course access “basics”. Further Live Learning feature information is available within the Help section of SkillPort after you log in.

Getting Started

Step 1: Log in to My SkillSource Live

1. Access the login screen at:

2. Enter your User ID and password. Passwords are case sensitive.

3. Click Login. (Reset will clear the fields if you need to re-enter your information).

Step 2: Enroll in a Live Learning Course

Once connected to SkillPort, you may find your Live Learning course in the My Plan section or use the “Search and Learn” feature, or you may browse the catalog for available courses.

1. Once you’ve located the desired course, click on the course name to display that course's summary page.

2. Click the Enroll button to gain access to the Live Learning course assets.

3. If your manager has enabled approvals, an email will be sent requesting enrollment in the course. Once the manager approves your enrollment request, you may access the course.

Step 3: Participate in a Live Session

The course’s summary page provides descriptive information and a list of all assets that comprise the Live Learning course. Once you have enrolled (Step 2), you can join a Live Session for those courses that include them. If the course does not include Live sessions, you may access the recorded Encore modules and other assets (skip to Step 4).

Follow the steps below to view a list of upcoming Live session dates and times:

1. In the course’s summary page, click on any Live Session link.

2. The Live Session summary page will be displayed:

If a session is within 45 minutes of its start time, or is already in-progress, a Join button will be displayed. If there is no active session, find a time when you will be able to attend and plan to join the session at that time.

Note: For a complete list of Live class sessions, please visit our web site and click on Calendar, which contains a “how to” guide with instructions on setting up email reminders or adding class sessions to your Outlook calendar.

3. Clicking the Join button launches the Live Session. A welcome screen will prompt you for your name and email address.

4. Enter the appropriate information in the welcome screen and click Log In. A dialog box will open indicating that you may join the audio session.

Audio button [pic] in the toolbar. When the audio Session window opens, click on the Join Audio Session button at the bottom of the window to enable the audio stream. Be sure your speakers or headphones are enabled.

6. You may communicate with instructors using the Chat feature in the lower left corner of the Dialogue window. Enter your messages in the text box and click Send to communicate with your instructors. A separate window displays the chat exchange.

The instructors will invite further participation by prompting with polling questions, quizzes, or by facilitating chat during the session.

Step 4: Accessing Encore modules and other assets

1. To view any of the other Live Learning course assets, click on the asset name in the course’s summary page.

2. This will load the asset page, where you can view, play, or even download the asset (if download is supported for that asset) as shown:

4. Most Encore modules and assessments utilize DVD-like controls [pic] for navigation. You may also navigate to any screen within Encore module by clicking on the course map icon [pic] in the window’s lower left corner. (Note: The look and feel of these controls may vary in newly released courses beginning May 2008.)

5. Other asset types utilize standard navigation methods, such as that used in browser windows or in other commonly used applications.

Further Live Learning feature information is available within the Help section at the top of the main SkillPort window.
