Directions: Answer the questions below on your paper after visiting the web sites.

1. WEBSITE #1:

Click on Renaissance Women. Click on Isabella & Catherine. What 3 things were Renaissance women supposed to do?

2. What languages could she speak?

3. Scroll down to Catherine de Medici. What happened to Catherine when she was one?

4. How many of Catherine’s sons became kings?

5. WEBSITE #2:

What was Michelangelo’s true love?

6. Instead of the original 12 figures of the apostles that the pope had suggested for the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, how many did Michelangelo paint?

7. Read the Article “Customs” Why would men pat each other on the back when they met?

8. Scroll down to “Making a Leg”. What part of a man was a very important focal point?

9. WEBSITE #3

10. Click on Renaissance Instruments. Click on Harpsichord. Look at the picture. What modern instrument does it look like?

11. Go back and click on Serpent. It was used in sacred music to reinforce what? (You can put on your headphones and click on the picture to hear a sample of it!)

12. Go back and click on Lute. Draw a sketch of the lute. (You can put on your headphones and click on the picture to hear a sample of it!)

13. WEBSITE #4

Click on Leonardo: Right to Left. What type of writing did he use?

14. Click on Try it Yourself! Then put in your first and last name to see how Leonardo would have written it. Now write your name as he would have written it.

15. Go back to the Exploring Leonard main site (website #4). Click on Inventor’s Workshop at the bottom. Scroll down and click on Visions of the Future. Click on the parachute to see how Leonardo first designed it. Draw a sketch of his drawing.

16. Go back to the Exploring Leonard main site (website #4) and click on What? Where? When? On the map, click on Rome. Since Leonardo was not allowed to study dead bodies, what did he use to learn about anatomy?

Research one of the following people, then create a business card the person could have used during their lifetime. Your choices include: Catherine de Medici, Isabella d’Este, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Galileo Galilei, Isaac Newton, or Martin Luther.

The business card must include:

• His/Her name in large print

• Where he/she could be contacted (not a phone number-phones didn’t exist!)

• Important accomplishments, skills, knowledge, etc.

• Appropriate illustrations & color

• Card must be clean, neat, and appealing to the readers!
