Easing Emotional Trauma in Bolivia
Greeted by a staff member, Jennifer Bender, RN, this young man and his father covered many miles for cleft palate surgery, with all travel costs paid through the efforts of his teacher. Surgical results were exceptional.

In his thirties, this man--with his mother--was the oldest patient stepping forward to experience his life in a
different way.

"At this point, I've been part of eight of these two-week surgical repair
trips, six to Kenya, one trip to South Sudan, and most recently, this past
January, to Bolivia," she notes. "Often my husband, Joe Cornett, who is
a radiologist, is part of the team, and our sons, Joseph and Gregg, offer
support, as their busy schedules permit. In terms of family, however, this
trip to Bolivia was a solo experience for me, and I was very comfortable, and
pleased, working with Dr. Jim Wade, who started the cleft lip/palate teams
in Kenya in the late 1990s."
The event is sponsored by World Medical Mission, which, for over
30 years, has been bringing general surgeons, dentists and other medical
personnel to Christian mission hospitals and clinics around the world. It is
an arm of Samaritan's Purse, founded by North Carolina-based Franklin
Graham, son of Billy Graham. Services are provided free to those in need.
The spirit of the healing trip to Bolivia is captured in these photographs
