HIS HEART SONG…Part 20

“Set Him as A Seal”

• Today we start with the bottom part of verse 5 in chapter 8…

• They have just been seen coming up out of the wilderness…with the bride LEANING on her Beloved….

• As they come out, can’t you just picture Him leaning over to her and saying these next words…

Song of Songs 8:5b “…I raised you up under the apple tree: there your mother brought you forth: there she who was in labor brought you forth.”

• Do you remember WHO the apple tree was?.....way back in chapter 2:3, she compared her Beloved…JESUS…to the apple tree…saying that it was the best of the best among all the trees in the forest…

• It’s like He is saying to her what 2 Thessalonians 2:13 says to us…”that God has from the beginning CHOSEN YOU to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief in the truth.”

• Even more Scriptures show us the intense love He has for us…EVEN BEFORE WE WERE BORN, He set us apart…

• Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."

• Galatians 1:15-16 “But when God, who set me apart from birth and called me by his grace, was pleased to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles, I did not consult any man…”

• Isaiah 49:5 “And now the LORD says--he who formed me in the womb to be his servant…”

• Psalm 71:6 ESV “Upon You I have leaned from before my birth; You are He who took me from my mother’s womb. My praise is continually of You”

• Psalm 139:15 “You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.”

• YOU ARE NOT AN ACCIDENT….from before you were in the womb…He set you apart to be His bride…

• Jeremiah 31:3 reminds us that He: "has loved you with an everlasting love; He have drawn us with loving-kindness”

• We are so important to Him that He has even sent ministering angels to minister to us and watch over us…according to Hebrews 1:14 “Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?”

• So important that He promised us in Hebrews 13:5 that “He would never leave us of forsake us.”

• After reminding her once again about how much He loves her…He then asks her to do something that is of utmost importance…He looks into her eyes and says…

Song of Songs 8:6 “Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm, for love is strong as death, JEALOUSY is fierce as the grave. Its flashes are flashes of fire, the very flame of the LORD.”

• He is telling her to invite Him to come and touch her heart…to release His fire upon her heart…to SEAL IT…the fire will be the very flames of God’s fire.

• The Hebrew word for SEAL is “signet” or “signet ring”…the king or his representative would affix the seal to a document representing his authority…his ownership…his will…his protection of…AND IT WAS PERMANENT!!!!

• In Esther there is an example of the seal of the kings signet ring…showing how permanent it is…Esther 8:8 “Now write another decree in the king's name in behalf of the Jews as seems best to you, and seal it with the king's signet ring--for no document written in the king's name and sealed with his ring can be revoked."

• Solomon knew very good and well what a signet ring seal meant…after all, he was a king….:)

• The SEAL King Jesus has sent for us today is the HOLY SPIRIT…

• 2 Corinthians 1:22 He has “set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.”

• This isn’t just an invitation that we are supposed to take lightly…it is an URGENT EXHORTATION…He is imploring us to set Him as a seal…and this seal comes with a promise…He says that God will come and release FIRE upon our heart that no water…no darkness can put out…it will be the FIRE OF LOVE!!!

• When we accept Him as our Savior…the seal of fire begins…as we choose to place His seal upon our HEART (mind, will, and emotions) and ARMS…it’s like a progression of the release of the power of His presence in our lives…He illuminates our understanding…and he will illuminate it even more if we SET HIM AS A SEAL…meaning INTENTIONALLY FOCUS ON HIM

• THINK ABOUT THIS….He set US as a seal on His heart and in His NAIL-SCARRED HANDS…we were on His heart as He endured the cross…in fact, He even has our names engraved into His hands….

• Isaiah 49:15-16 “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me. “

• SET HIM AS A SEAL on your heart…let every thought or decision you make be made with Him…the HEART is a place of LOVE….your INNER LIFE…your THOUGHTS/MIND?WILL/EMOTIONS

• SET HIM AS A SEAL UPON YOUR ARMS…let everything you do be done in Him…by getting His approval before you move or act…the ARM is a place of STRENGTH….it is also a place of MINISTRY…your WORKS

• Make that resolution that you will set Him as a seal….and you will be BAPTIZED BY FIRE…just like Luke says

• Luke 3:16 “John answered them all, "I baptize you with water. But one more powerful than I will come, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.”

• If He is your seal….then you will ASK HIM if He approves before you made any choices…you would never dare to do anything that would hurt Him…you would actually FEAR to hurt Him

• You would ASK HIM if He approved before you watched something on TV, before you went to certain places, or before you said certain things

• You would actually FEAR to hurt Him….but it would be a good, healthy, spiritual type of fear

• Psalm 34:9 "Fear the LORD, you his saints, for those who fear him lack nothing."

• Psalm 147:11 “but the LORD takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his steadfast love.”

• Proverbs 3:7 “Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil.”

• Proverbs 10:27 “The fear of the LORD adds length to life, but the years of the wicked are cut short.”

• Her journey started by her wanting His kisses (His revelation)…but her journey is ending with the most amazing thing…more than she could have ever dreamed or hoped for….she was asking for just a little bit of intimacy…and He goes way beyond that and seals her with SUPERNATURAL FIRE!!!!!

• This FIERY LOVE is the love that the Father feels toward His Son…God promised Jesus an inheritance…and that inheritance is an ETERNAL COMPANION who loves Him in the way that He loves her…Jesus actually prayer for the Father to give us, the inheritance, to Him in John 17:26

• John 17:26 “I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them."

• Jesus prayed for the love with which the Father loved Him, that THAT love would be supernaturally imparted into human beings…into US….THAT is an amazing thing!

• There is NO WAY that we can love like GOD loves…we have to have help…that help is the HOLY SPIRIT…He is the SEAL OF FIRE ON OUR HEART…He helps us to love like God loves…

• The HOLY SPIRIT gives us the anointing to LOVE as He loves….not only do we love JESUS…but when the Holy Spirit seals us and helps us to love like He loves…that love also pours out onto others….this is what Jesus asked us to do: To LOVE HIM and to LOVE OTHERS…

• Romans 5:5 “God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.”

• It takes God to love God.

• We need the Spirit’s supernatural help to love God with all our heart.

• It’s actually an ANOINTING…The anointing to love God is the greatest gift that the Spirit imparts to us

• Jesus wants VOLUNTARY lovers…..EVERYONE (even demons) will bow their knee to Him one day in OBEDIENCE…but He is looking for those people that will say YES to Him in their HEARTS and CHOOSE to love Him!!!!

• He wants us to SET HIM AS THE SEAL….to BELIVE in Him …to PRESS into Him…to CALL upon Him…not just a little bitty plea from us…but an URGENT, CONTENDING type of call to Him….until He releases that seal upon our heart….

• CALL TO HIM…tell Him that you want to love Him with all your heart the way that His Father loves Him….if you tell Him that, that would be you praying John 17:26…or tell Him that you want to love Him with all of your heart, soul, mind, and strength…tell him that you want to be ONE with Him as He is ONE with the Father…tell Him that you want EVERYTHING that He could give the human spirit!!!

• BELIEVE that he will set the fiery seal of LOVE upon your heart!!!

• Check out this verse…

• Matthew 11:12 “Jesus said, “The kingdom of God suffers violence and the VIOLENT take it by force!”

• VIOLENTLY CALL OUT TO HIM!!!!...SET Him as a seal…ASK Him, INVITE Him, URGENTLY to come….you NEED the anointing of that kind of LOVE….you need that kind of LOVE to overflow into every area of your life and then to flow out onto others…

• THEN….when you have it….that type of love will enable you to minister to others and to Him more effectively…

• GET A FIERCE DETERMINATION going on inside of you!!! DETERMINE that you are going to walk in that type of LOVE

• DETERMINE that you are going to OBEY…DETERMINE that you are going to LOVE YOUR ENEMIES…DETERMINE that you are going to FORGIVE….DETERMINE that you are going to FAST…DETERMINE that you are going to GIVE…DETERMINE that you are going to BLESS…DETERMINE that you are going to SERVE….

• DO THESE THINGS WITH A VIOLENT RESOLUTION…not just “when you feel like it”

• To “get violent” simply means to GET RESOLVED…..REFUSE TO BE DENIED….you WILL walk in these kingdom principles!!!

• REFUSE TO BACK UP!!!!

• The SEAL OF FIRE that He asks us to set on our heart and arm… all the power in His ENTIRE KINGDOM will back it up!

“…for love is as strong as death; jealously unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame.”

• His JEALOUSLY for us is for OUR GOOD!!!!...it is as strong as the grave and UNYEILDING!!!

• Jesus is comparing His love to the most certain thing in the natural realm— death. There is nothing more certain than death. Nobody escapes death, or no plant, no animal, no nothing

• DEFINITION OF UNYIELDING: stubborn: not giving in to persuasion, pressure, or force inflexible: hard, rigid, or inflexible

• His love for us is so JEALOUS that it PROTECTS us and it fights against our enemy…HE IS CONSUMED WITH US!!!!!

• THINK ABOUT IT: Remember that we are an army under banners unfurled…banners of LOVE….we need to hid under the banner of God’s JEALOUSLY….it is surely blood red with a big flame of FIRE on it….NO ENEMY could ever reach us under there

• Ezekiel 39:25 “I shall be jealous for My holy name”

• His jealousy does not grow out of insecurity, anxiety, frustration, covetousness, pride, or spite, as ours usually does…. It is the natural and necessary by-product of His absolute sovereignty and infinite HOLINESS

• In other words…God is incredibly JEALOUS over His DIETY!!!... The first and second commandment make that very clear!...Exodus 20:3-6 ”Thou shalt worship no other God." —"Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in the heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a JEALOUS God. punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.”

• He is INTENSELY SERIOUS ABOUT HIS JEALOUSY OVER US!!!!

• If you think about it…the whole human race is a great big record of God going to war against idolatry.!!!!

• You could even go as far as to think about what the idols are in your life…remember: God is JEALOUS OVER YOU…it won’t do to put your husband or children on a pedestal that is higher than your devotion toward God…or…what about a grief that we nurse and nurse for YEARS and YEARS…or what about spending time with friends so much so that we never have time to have a quiet time with God…those things are IDOLATRY…

• THINK ABOUT IT THIS WAY: No husband would want to share his wife with another man…that’s how God is too…He cannot and will not endure infidelity in us…What would you think about some man or woman who wouldn’t feel jealous if someone came to his/her spouse and tried to sin their affection?...we would think that person either had no moral character at all or they lacked big time in true love…there is even a Proverb about how furious the husband would be…

• Proverbs 6:34 “for jealousy arouses a husband's fury, and he will show no mercy when he takes revenge.”

• Some versions of the Bible use different words for the last part of this verse…NLT “Love flashes like fire, the brightest kind of flame.”…ESV “Its flashes are flashes of fire, the very flame of the LORD.”…AmKJV “the coals thereof are coals of fire, which has a most vehement flame.”

• The point is…HE IS THE LIVING FLAME OF LOVE!!!!...and we need Him to BAPTIZE US with HIS FIRE!

• Deuteronomy 4:24 “For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.”

• Hebrews 12:29 “for our "God is a consuming fire."

• He has a SUPERNATURAL type of JEALOUSLY for us!...not wanting to share us with anything or anyone…

• In fact, that His Name is JEALOUS is mentioned 35 times in the Bible!

• The God that we serve BURNS with JEALOUSLY for our complete and total undivided attention and affection of US…His people!

• The very core of His being is an INEXTINGUISHABLE BLAZE of love beyond measure called JEALOUSY

• Our God burns with jealousy for the undivided allegiance and affection of His people… At the very core of His being, in the center of His personality is an inextinguishable blaze of immeasurable love called JEALOUSY

• FYI….He is not jealous like we are jealous…we get jealous and suspicious because we have insecurities and because we don’t trust someone or because we don’t like the success of someone else…but that is all SINFUL jealousy….mainly because of anger, bitterness, and fear. That is NOT GOD-TYPE jealousy.

• GOD/DIVINE JEALOUSY is a zeal and passion to PROTECT a love relationship…to avenge it when it is broken….God is moved to jealousy when something or someone stands in the way of Him and His Beloved

• FYI….ENVY is not the same as JEALOUSY…envy and jealousy cannot be used interchangeably. JEALOUSY is possessive and protective; it can be a good thing or a bad thing…GOD’S JEALOUSY…His POSSESSIVENESS of His people…is a GOOD THING…it protects us from being plucked out of His hand…

• It is a very very good thing that we have a JEALOUS God…it is truly a way that He protects us…check out what Ezekiel says about ANYTHING that tries to lure us away from God…it is EXTREMELY INTENSE…

• Ezekiel 16:38-40 “I will sentence you to the punishment of women who commit adultery and who shed blood; I will bring on you the blood vengeance of my wrath and jealous anger. 39 Then I will deliver you into the hands of your lovers, and they will tear down your mounds and destroy your lofty shrines. They will strip you of your clothes and take your fine jewelry and leave you stark naked. 40 They will bring a mob against you, who will stone you and hack you to pieces with their swords. “

• He is saying that anything that tries to take your attention and affection away from God WILL come back to strip you naked and cut you to pieces….O MY GOODNESS….THANK GOD that He is Jealous and He protects me from that stuff!!!

• JUST FYI….there is such a thing as godly jealousy that WE can have…Paul actually says that he has godly jealousy over the Corinthian Church…

• 2 Corinthians 11:2 ”I am jealous over you with a godly jealousy, for I have espoused you to one husband that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ." …Paul had an major concern for their holiness…he wanted desperately for Jesus to be honored in their lives.

• If JEALOSUY was EVIL in itself…then we could never say that “God is Jealous”…BUT it isn’t inherently evil…..God’s jealousy is a PURE and HOLY FLAME….

• The passionate jealousy that He feels toward us is an INTENSE FORCE…it actually fires His whole nature….it truly is like a HURRICANE!...it stops at nothing….for it is as strong as the grave…

“He is JEALOUS for me, His love, like a hurricane, I am a tree, bending beneath the weight of His wind and mercy…then all of a sudden, I am unaware of these afflictions –eclipsed by Glory. And I realize just how beautiful You are and How great Your affections are for me!

…..We are His portion, and He is our prize, Drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes…If grace is an ocean, we’re all sinking

So Heaven meets Earth like a sloppy, wet kiss (His REVELATION!!!!) And my heart turns violently inside of my chest…I don’t have time to maintain these regrets…When I think about the way….He LOVES me!!!!

• I think you get the big picture…JESUS CHRIST IS EXTREMELY JEALOUS OF YOUR LOVE…Because He choose you, He can’t bear it when we choose another…because He bought us with His very own blood…He can’t stand it when we think we are our own or that we belong to this world…He would sooner DIE than to think that we would perish….He stripped Himself of all the glory of heaven to come down here and be shamed and spit on just so that you could be clothed in beauty and honor and glory….it drives Him nuts to think that you would love the world more than you would love Him

• REMEMBER: we are married to a very jealous Husband

• He is very jealous of your TRUST…He wants you to lean on Him and Him alone…He doesn’t want you to trust in your own abilities or wisdom

• He is very jealous of our COMPANY…there should be nothing that is even remotely comparable as He should be to us…He is jealous for our time…Our Husband WANTS to spend time with us!

• Make no doubt about it….We serve a JEALOUS God

• Exodus 34:14 “For the Lord, whose Name is JEALOUS, is a JEALOUS God.”

• Not JEALOUS as we know “a jealous lover in this crazy age to be”…but a PURE JEALOUS…a GOOD JEALOUS…A CONSUMING JEALOUS…He wants deep interaction with us…He wants all your thoughts…He wants to be closer than close with us….

Song of Songs 8:7a “Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it…”

• Nothing can stop this love that He has for her…nothing…

• Not the waters of sin…not the waters of pressure or pain or disappointment …not the waters of being persecuted….ABSOLUTELY NOTHING can quench or drown out this love

• If the enemy wants to send water to put out this flame… he wants to send OPPOSITION….BUT IT WON’T WORK….

• In the natural, water puts out fire….but we are talking SUPERNATURAL FIRE HERE!

• If you will let this fire burn in your life…it has the POWER to overcome any waters of addiction, bitterness, anger, offense, immorality perversion,…you name it…THIS FIRE will overcome it…IF you INVITE it in to your life VOLUNTARILY

• He even goes on to say …

Song of Songs 8:7b “…If a man would give the wealth of all of his house for love he would utterly despise it.”

• Meaning…that if a person gave everything…for the sake of love…they would utterly despise the recognition that someone would think that what they did was such a “great thing”…they would say “No, I did nothing. It is for LOVE!”

• If you give EVERYTHING for the sake of this love…you will never be lacking…you will never get burnt out…you would never get angry and say stuff like “I can’t believe it, I gave everything and THIS is where it got me”…..you would never care the first thing even about what others would think about you if they were “singing your praises for giving away so much for the sake of love”….you would UTTERLY DESPISE that recognition….because the heart of a TRUE LOVER, when their heart is in LOVE, THAT LOVE is the reward itself…not the accolades of any man…

• The more you say YES to His love…the more His LOVE will demand of you…until it COMSUMES every part of your being and every area of your life…

• The more you say YES to Him…the more SUPERNATURAL ability He will give you to walk in that love…

• That sounds intense…but that’s just how it is!

• YOU WERE MADE FOR LOVE!!! YOU were made for LIGHT…death and darkness and selfishness just depress us…WE WEREN’T MADE FOR THAT YUCK STUFF!

• You may be thinking “I don’t want to get into a relationship with Him where He continuously asks for MORE…but the reason we think that way is because we don’t have the TOTAL REVELATION of all the benefits of this kind of relationship!

• He promises that we WOULD NOT DESPISE the giving of ourselves!....because the more we give, the more revelation He downloads into us!

• Check out what Peter said about this…

• 1 Peter 5:8 “Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy”…WOOWOO!!!!!

• So………………….set Him as the SEAL UPON YOUR HEART…..He already is set as your SAVIOR, HEALER, and DELIVERER…..but set Him as the SEAL of the JEALOUS BRIDEGROOM as see what happens!!!!!.....He will require EVERYTHING from you in the Spirit like death does in the natural…BUT….the more you say YES to Him….the more LIGHT you will walk in

• Do you understand that there is NO ONE on the face of this earth that is as interested in you as He is!!!!???...there is nothing about you that bores Him…

• He wants ALL of you so that He can reveal Himself to you in a deeper way…He has much more to give us than just forgiveness…though forgiveness is an awesome thing….even more to give us than just healing or provision….MORE THAN THAT STILL!

• HE WON’T RELENT UNTIL HE HAS IT ALL….

• We need to ask Him for this seal of LOVE…we have to have this anointing of LOVE…the FIRE OF GOD released in our heart….it all goes back to the first commandment…

• Matthew 22:36-40 "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments"
