Soundtrack of life culminating activity



Music has become vastly important as a coping and reflective method of dealing of life.

In this assignment, It is your chance to create the “soundtrack” of your life by selecting songs with meaningful lyrics that reflect course themes that have influenced or is present in your life.

Criteria:

o Choose 5 songs that represent your life up until this point or where you would like to be in the future

o The songs must reflect the themes of the course but also have impacted you in some way where you can explain the significance of the lyrics to your life.

o There are 4 sections to this assignment that have to be submitted.

What you are handing in?

1) Part A: A copy of the lyrics for each song with the names of the artists/groups, and the titles of the songs (if the song is in a different language, you provide a translation of lyrics into English)

2) Part B of the analysis, includes a brief summary in your own words that describe the main message in the song— (1-2 paragraphs)

Guiding Questions to answer this section:

o What is the meaning of the song?

o Who wrote this song and is there a story behind why this song was created?

o What does this song mean to you?

o How did you understand the message of the song?

o Is there a general point or purpose to the lyrics for society (what are they teaching us?)

3) Part C- This section revolves around the course themes outlined above; you will DESCRIBE how the song applies to themes in this course that we have covered. (1-2 paragraphs)

Guiding Questions to answer this section:

o How is the course theme present in the song lyrics?

o How does the song connect to you?

o How has it influenced you?

o What events in your life does this song represent?

o How is this song meant to help/change you? Has it helped or changed you?

o How does this song impact/reflect society?

4) Part D- You must CREATE a CD cover – Every soundtrack has a cover and this is your chance to be creative!

o You can draw the cover by hand, create one on the computer, create a collage of images/words, etc. It is up to you!

o It must be reflective of your life and the songs that you have chosen.

To Keep in Mind:

Just as music producers do, try to create a progression in the sequence of your chosen songs. For example, your songs might be listed in the chronological order of the events they document, or they might be mixed together so that all of the slow songs are not back-to-back. DO NOT just list them randomly. Put some thought into the order of your songs and the complete package you are presenting.
