Letter
The following aspects of the letter were considered in assessment: Clarity and appropriateness to the given situation, fluency and coherence of language, correctness of grammar, range of vocabulary and idiom as well as the length of the response.
The letter assigned required that the candidate:
? Provide information about an experience in the past tense ? Express feelings about the experience ? Report on what was learnt from the experience ? Outline reasons for (not) wanting to repeat the experience.
Content
The letter required that the candidate respect the rubric with regards to length and format. All points were to be clearly expressed and developed. The writer of this exemplar adhered to the format by including the date in Spanish and by using the appropriate salutation and ending. The required amount of words was written (130 450), The letter was well organized with all points logically developed and clearly expressed. There was coherence of language. In addition, the letter was well structured in terms of paragraphs.

The occasional inaccuracy did not affect the very good quality and clarity of language. Generally, there was a very good flow of correctness of expression with excellent use of idiom, appropriate vocabulary and correct structures. The use of expressions such as: estaba loca de alegrIa, a pesar de, /o pas?
bomba, added flavor to the letter. In addition, exclamations such as /Qu? ernocionante! made the account of the experience more vivid. The candidate showed a very good command of grammar, displaying correct use of the following: the subjunctive mood, the present, preterite, imperfect, and conditional tenses, agreement and placement of adjectives, the proper use of the in.bntive, the use of the imperative etc.
The candidate demonstrated commendable competence in the language.
