Indirect Objects!

To avoid repetition instead of saying the same object or name over and over, we replace them with pronouns.

If an object receives an ACTION directly, it is a DOP: Direct Object Pronoun.

Indirect objects are nouns that tell TO WHOM/WHAT OR FOR WHOM/WHAT.

They replace or accompany indirect objects.

THE INDIRECT OBJECT PRONOUNS: IOP

|To me: Me |To us: Nos |

|To you: Te | |

|To you formal, him/her: Le |To them, you all: Les |

Gracias, español.

*** if you use a DOP and a IOP in the same sentence, the LE or LES becomes SE!!!

Rosa le compra una olla a su madre. ( Rosa le compra una olla.

Rosa buys a pot for her mother ( Rosa buys a pot for her. OR Rosa buys her a pot.

The pronouns le and les can refer to different indirect objects. To clarify what they mean, they are often accompanied by:

a + name, noun or pronoun

ex: Rosa le compra una olla.

Rosa buys her a pot. OR Rosa buys a pot for her.

The IOP Can be stated with repetition to clarify the situation:

Rosa le compra una olla a su madre.

Rosa buys a pot for her mother.

To add emphasis they used a + pronoun.

A mí me compro unos aretes.

I’m buying myself some earrings.
