Casey Beaumier, S.J. Boston College

Casey is a Jesuit priest at Boston College who is working on a Ph.D. in history, focusing on American religious history. He is from the Midwest and is 38 years of age. He sees a number of lay undergraduate students and former WJST students for spiritual direction, along with several seminarians and religious from the greater Boston area. He is more than happy to meet with BC graduate students who are studying at the School of Theology and Ministry.

Amy currently serves as the Director of Faith Formation at St. Ignatius Church (just across the street from the STM).  She recently completed training in spiritual direction through the Jesuit Collaborative.  Amy sees spiritual direction as a conversation between two people who are actively seeking the presence of God in life.  Amy’s personal spirituality, training, and practice in the ministry of spiritual direction are grounded in Ignatian spirituality.  Her hope is that when people come for direction they will have a sincere desire to interact with God and that the conversation that happens in direction will help to facilitate noticing God and discerning what that noticing might mean.

Kathryn O'Connell Cleary earned an M.A. in pastoral ministry from Boston College. She worked professionally within the Catholic Church for over twenty years in the roles of pastoral associate, liturgy coordinator, and director of liturgy and music. From 1992 until 1998, Kathryn was a member of the retreat team at St. Stephen Priory. Her responsibilities there included teaching courses in spirituality, presenting guided and directed retreats, and offering spiritual direction. Presently, Kathryn is offering spiritual direction and retreats on a full-time, freelance basis. She has recently become certified in the Touching Spirit method of Energy Healing, as well as becoming a Reiki practitioner. Kathryn is married and the mother of three grown children, two of whom are married. She has recently and joyfully become a grandmother.

Linda is a Board Certified Chaplain with Master degrees in Counseling Psychology and Pastoral Ministry from Boston College. She is also a trained Relationship Coach. She has been a Spiritual Director for the past seventeen years and an Associate of the Sisters of Charity – Halifax for the past eight years.  She is the Director of Spiritual Care in a nursing home Monday through Thursday and has a private practice of spiritual direction on Fridays.

Diane is a wife, mother, and grandmother who, after teaching for 20 years in an independent school, went to Weston Jesuit School of Theology for a degree in spiritual direction.  She is certified by the Center for Religious Development where she was an adjunct supervisor for four years and a staff member for three years.  She has done spiritual direction formation through the Jesuit Collaborative and has been a facilitator for Holistic Faith Formation at STM.  Diane meets with people at an office in her home.

Pauline Curley is a Sister of St. Joseph of Boston with a Masters Degree in both Pastoral Counseling and Reading. She is certified in spiritual direction. Having made the Spiritual Exercises and the Exercises in Everyday Life, Pauline has directed retreats and weekend programs at St. Joseph Retreat Center in Cohasset, MA. Presently, she offers individual spiritual direction at the Spiritual Ministry offices at the Sisters of St. Joseph residence in Brighton. Pauline has experience working at shelters for homeless women and has a commitment to end the trafficking of women and children. She is presently working as the coordinator of a Learning Center in a Montessori School.

Patricia is a Sister of St. Joseph of Boston. She has over 35 years of experience in liturgy, prayer and spirituality, and music. She is a certified spiritual director having graduated from the three year Souljourner program in Atchison, Kansas. She is a nationally certified and licensed massage therapy practitioner and a certified energy and reconnection practitioner. She holds a Mus.M. in voice and church music from Boston University,  an MTS  from Weston Jesuit School of Theology, and has done doctoral work in systematics  and spirituality at Boston University and St. Paul School of Theology in Kansas City.

Carmela has been in Pastoral Ministry for more than 20 years. She has been associated with several hospitals in the Boston area. She is board certified with the National Association of Catholic Chaplains. Most recently received a Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry with the concentration in Hispanic Ministry at Boston College. She is bilingual and fully fluent in Spanish. She has guided seminarians interning in a couple of hospitals in pastoral ministry, including Blessed Pope John the 23rd. She has worked as a spiritual companion with Hispanic women living with AIDS in the Boston area. She has an M Div. and D. Min. degree. She began spiritual direction training at Weston Jesuit at the Center for Spirituality in Cambridge. She received a Certificate in Spiritual Direction from the Haden Institute. She is steeped in Ignatian spirituality having completed the 19th Annotation some years ago. She’s blessed with a devoted Catholic husband, three children and three grandsons.

Maria has been the Director of the Boston College Neighborhood Center since 1998. She loves her work as a liaison between the Boston College and Allston-Brighton communities. Her passions include accompanying undergraduate and graduate students, women’s spirituality, and social justice work. Maria offers spiritual direction and facilitates and presents at various retreats. Additionally, she has created weekend and week-long retreats focusing on Women's Wellness.  Maria holds masters degrees in Higher Education Administration and Pastoral Ministry as well as a Post Masters Certificate in Spirituality from Boston College.  Maria enjoys traveling both domestically and internationally.

Melinda serves the STM as Associate Director for Continuing Education.  This follows many years of parish ministry, as well as work for Boston College’s C21 Online, Post-Master's Certificate in Spirituality, Holistic Formation, and Contextual Education programs.  She has been involved in spiritual direction work for the past 10 years.  She holds an M.A. in pastoral ministry and certificates in the practice of spirituality and ecclesial ministry, all from Boston College.  Melinda was raised in the Presbyterian tradition in Colorado, and chose to become Catholic as a young adult.  She is available to see students at the STM or in Acton, MA.

Joanne Fantini

Joanne is employed by Reckitt Benckiser, a global addiction company that pioneers life-transforming treatment for addiction. She works with public health and advocacy as well as serving as Mission Leader for a Save the Children program to improve the lives of children working in brick kiln factories in India. She received her MA in Pastoral Ministry with a concentration in spirituality in 1993 at BC/IREPM. Joanne is a spiritual director in the Ignatian tradition and has led retreats at Eastern Point Retreat House in Gloucester and St. Joseph Villa in Cohasset. In addition, Joanne works with the Jesuit Collaborative and is on the board for Women’s Table. She is the mother of four young adult children.

Janice Farnham, a Religious of Jesus and Mary, holds a doctorate in church history and has taught modern Christian history and spirituality at Weston Jesuit since 1992. She has extensive ministerial experience in teaching, advocacy and educational administration, as well as spiritual direction. She has twice served on her province’s leadership team and is presently the formation director for the province. In 2004, Janice began Sophia House in Arlington, MA, a community for women in active discernment towards religious life. Janice is trained in Ignatian spirituality and its ‘way of proceeding.’

Catherine is on staff at the Jesuit Collaborative in Watertown, MA where she directs formation programs for spiritual directors. She served on the spiritual formation staff at the Center for Religious Development in Cambridge, MA for eleven years. Catherine is the former Director of Continuing Education at Weston Jesuit School of Theology and former president of the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Leominster, MA. She is a graduate of the Center for Religious Development and has been involved in the ministry of spiritual direction for many years.

Lorene believes that spiritual direction invites a relationship unlike most others. Listening for the heart and movement of God with another is a sacred place of trust. For more than ten years, Lorene has had the privilege of sitting with men and women of Catholic, Protestant and other faith traditions.  Trained at Shalem Institute of Spiritual Formation, she is contemplative in flavor and ecumenical in heart. Creativity, art/design, and spirituality have carved the path in her formation. Primary location for visits is West Medford; however, she is willing to consider other locations. Fee is by donation on a sliding scale.

Carolyn is a Catholic lay woman who is married and the mother of three young children. She has a Ph.D. in theology from Boston College and has completed the three-year certificate program in the practice of spirituality from the Boston College School of Theology and Ministry. Carolyn is a parishioner of Our Lady Help of Christian Parish in Newton where she is involved in the Honduras Committee, Justice and Peace Committee, Parish Council, Arise Together in Christ, and the contemporary choir. Prior to moving to the Boston area, Carolyn worked for several years at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops in Washington, D.C. while doing retreat ministry and earning her M.A. in theology at the Catholic University of America. She also holds a B.A. in theology and liberal studies from the University of Notre Dame. Carolyn’s special interests include feminist spirituality, family spirituality, the Christian contemplative tradition, and the spirituality of peace and justice.

Ellen is a Sister of Notre Dame de Namur. Her ministries have included teaching, administration, pastoral counseling, spiritual direction, and retreat work. Ellen worked in ministry in Kenya, East Africa for twelve years. Those years were a time of awakening to the richness and diversity of God’s goodness, a homecoming of sorts. She was on staff at the Center for Religious Development in Cambridge, a training center for spiritual directors. She now serves at the Office of Spiritual Formation at the Jesuit Collaborative.

Tim is a lay man of faith, a practicing clinical psychologist for over 25 years, and a psychoanalyst. His work in spiritual direction is grounded in the Catholic tradition and in Ignatian spirituality as well as in his own on-going prayer life.  He has completed a practicum in spiritual direction and has taken courses in Ignatian spirituality. He is in an on-going group for spiritual direction supervision and he studies part-time in a pastoral ministry program at the STM . Tim has directed people from Boston College through the School of Theology and Ministry, the Center for Ignatian Spirituality's Lenten retreat in everyday life for faculty and staff, and the Messina program. While Tim sometimes meets people at Boston College, he usually meets with people in his private office on Beacon Street in Newton Centre about 1 and 1/2 miles from the STM.  Please call or e-mail with questions or for appointments.

Dan Leahy

Dan Leahy is campus minister at Boston College. He is married and has three children, the eldest a rising senior at BC. He graduated from BC in 1982 with a degree in Philosophy and Theology. After a tour with the Jesuit Volunteer Corp in Nicaragua, he returned home to pursue a Master’s Degree in Religious Education through the Institute of Religious Education and Pastoral Ministry. Dan has served in social work, taught high school, and worked in Campus Ministry at Saint Anselm College before arriving at BC fifteen years ago. In addition to spiritual conversation and direction, he has enjoyed working with faith based service programs and leading international immersion experiences in Latin America for students, faculty, staff and alumni.

Judy LoGerfo served as a Lay Ecclesial Minister for over 20 years. She holds a Masters Degree in Educational and Pastoral Ministry from Emmanuel College and a Master of Theological Studies from Weston Jesuit School of Theology. As a Board Certified Chaplain (NACC) she ministered in parish, campus, lay formation, and hospital settings in the Archdiocese of Boston. In 2004 Judy completed her internship in the Spiritual Direction Initiative Program where she is still part of a supervision group. Currently Judy is engaged in retreat ministry and spiritual direction as well as serving as a Gallery Instructor for School Group Programs at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. She has an interest in formation for lay ministry for the Church and Ignatian Spirituality. She is available to meet with students on campus. Judy and her husband are parents of four adult children and they have two grandchildren. They are parishioners at St Paul‘s in Harvard Square, Cambridge.

Brian was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Boston in 1995. He served in two parishes, Saint John's in Wellesley and Saint Joseph in Medway before being sent for further studies to Catholic University of America in 2001. He received an S.T.L. in liturgy from CUA in 2003. From July of 2003 until July of 2006 he was director of the Office for Worship for the Archdiocese of Boston. In 2006, when the Office of Worship was joined with the Office of Spiritual Development, he served as Co-Director of the Office for Worship and Spiritual Life until 2009. He also began teaching in the M.A. in Ministry program and for the diaconate training program in January 2005. He has served as pastor of Saint Theresa in Sherborn MA, and is currently the pastor of St. Francis Parish, Dracut.

An experienced retreat director and spiritual director, Joan has ministered on hundreds of directed retreats of up to 30-days in the United States, Canada and Europe. She has also supervised spiritual directors, retreat directors, and pastoral ministers. She is a graduate of the Center for Religious Development in Cambridge and has an M.A. in clinical pastoral ministry from Emmanuel College. She also holds a certificate from the Institute for Religious Formation of St. Louis University. Joan currently facilitates an internship program in spiritual direction at Campion Renewal Center. She has edited and authored books, including Discernment, The Spirituality of the Boston Sisters of St. Joseph 1650-1998, and Spiritual Direction: A Contemplative Experience.

Mary Ann is a wife and mother of six grown children and grandmother to eleven grandchildren.  She graduated from Boston College School of Education and received her master’s degree in Christian spirituality and a certificate in retreat direction and spiritual direction from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. She is a former teacher and is presently a member of Our Lady Help of Christians Parish in Newton, Massachusetts. Mary Ann is the Co-Director of the Office of Worship and Spiritual Life, Archdiocesan Coordinator of ARISE: Together in Christ, and the former lay director of the Archdiocesan Cursillo Movement. Together with Reverend John Sassani, she co-authored Living With Christ and was a contributing author to Bereaved Children and Teens, edited by Earl Grollman.

Gail is a Religious of the Sacred Heart and has been involved in spiritual direction and retreat work, including the 30 day retreat experience, since 1980. She has provided spiritual formation for candidates in the Society of the Sacred Heart in the United States for 13 years and has served on the international formation team in Rome. Gail also served on the novitiate team for the Jesuits of the Detroit- Chicago Province for three years. She served as Director of Continuing Education at Weston Jesuit School of Theology and facilitated the Colloquium for Ministry and Life in the STM sabbatical program. Gail is a group facilitator in the STM Holistic Formation program.

Jane O’Shaughnessy, RSCJ, has recently returned to the Boston area after professing final vows in Rome in the Society of the Sacred Heart. She holds an MTS from Weston Jesuit School of Theology and has completed the spiritual direction program with the Guild for Spiritual Guidance and a retreat direction program at St. Ignatius Retreat House in Manhasset, NY. She has been in ministry in spiritual direction and retreat work in San Diego, at the Spiritual Ministry Center, and in Asia, at the Institute for Consecrated Life in Asia, for the last several years. Jane is the mother of two daughters and grandmother of three.

At present, Mary is a pastoral associate at St. Agatha's Parish in Milton, MA. Mary did her spiritual direction training at Our Lady of Peace Spiritual Life Center in Narragansett, R.I. She is also certified for annulments and has a national certification for youth ministry. Mary can meet people at the STM, in Milton, or at Campion Renewal Center.

Kathleen Morrow Simisky holds an MA in Pastoral Ministry and a Certificate in the Practice of Spirituality from Boston College Institute of Religious Education and Pastoral Ministry. She also completed a Spiritual Direction Internship with the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Boston. She is a Certified Catholic Chaplain (NACC.) She has enjoyed a variety of professional roles in ministry, including chaplain, Director of Pastoral Care, Theology teacher, campus Minister, retreat leader, and counselor. Kathy is married and has two grown children and three small grandchildren. Her spirituality is grounded in the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Mary, a native Bostonian and a Sister of Charity of Halifax, arrived at Boston College in September 2003. In addition to an M.A. in English, she holds the M.Div. and D.Min. degrees. Her previous campus ministry assignments include Boston University, Merrimack College, and the University of Maine. As a campus minister at Boston College, Mary’s responsibilities include outreach to graduate and professional students, RCIA, and spiritual direction and retreat work.

Judy is a married Roman Catholic lay woman. After a 23 year career in the corporate world, she earned an M.Div. from Weston Jesuit School of Theology where she completed the Practicum in Spiritual Direction. She has offered spiritual direction and programs in spirituality for 15 years. She was part of the lay formation team at Weston Jesuit for 4 years and is now a group facilitator for the Holistic Formation Program at STM. She is also a certified chaplain with the National Association of Catholic Chaplains. Judy has worked in health care ministry for more than 10 years. She has a strong interest in the formation of lay ecclesial ministers who can serve effectively in today’s church. Judy understands spiritual direction as a process of “listening people into being” their most authentic selves before God and in the service of others.

Anne Marie holds an M.Div.from Weston Jesuit School of Theology and a Master of Theology focusing on theology and spirituality from Boston College. She received her training in spiritual direction at the Center for Religious Development in Cambridge while at Weston Jesuit and follow-on training through the Spiritual Direction Internship Initiative offered by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston. Anne has done ministry in parish, hospital and retreat settings. She is a certified pastoral associate in the Archdiocese of Boston and currently works as a Pastoral Care Coordinator at Bethany Health Care Center providing pastoral and spiritual care to the residents and staff. She is an adjunct retreat director at St. Joseph Retreat Center. Her passion in ministry is to enable and empower others to live their baptismal call to discipleship and to enter more deeply into relationship with God and others.
