With the changes that have been made throughout the district with behavior consequences, threats and bullying, it is imperative that we work together reinforcing academic standards by discouraging the use of unkind words and actions that affect the overall learning environment of the classroom. As you have those morning talks with your child have them reflect on:Are the words and actions I’m displaying to others unkind and hurtful? How would it make me feel if others said or treated me unfair or were not kind?Words and actions that make others feel threatened or fearful have consequences. Thanks again as we work together to provide our students with a safe, secure learning environment! Educationally Yours,Ms. Greer127000391795Principal’s MessageMs. Ringler, PrincipalIt is hard to believe that we have completed the first two quarters of school already. We recently completed the Broward Standards Assessment (BSA) test in grades 3 – 5 in ELA, Math and Science for 5th grade. The data that we are getting back is very promising. As always, we will continue to use data to make the best instructional decisions for our students. Given that we are now at mid-year, it is critical that you understand exactly how your child is performing. Please take the time to discuss with your child his or her performance and goals for success. If you should have any questions regarding the progress of your child, please be sure and contact his/her teacher.I need your assistance ensuring that your child comes to school daily ready to learn and allows his or her peers to learn and teachers to teach. Being late to school affects the whole classroom if the teacher has to slow down learning to help children who come in late. Missed information makes it harder for your child to understand, catch up and be successful in his or her studies. Remember, excellence begins at 8:00 a.m. at Driftwood Elementary School.Your involvement is very important to the success of our school. I encourage you to become an active parent with our PTO and/or volunteering at Driftwood Elementary School. Well-informed parents who participate in their child’s education and school enhance the learning environment for students and educators alike. Thank you for your continued support and being a part of the Driftwood Team!Educationally Yours, Ms. Ringler00Principal’s MessageMs. Ringler, PrincipalIt is hard to believe that we have completed the first two quarters of school already. Students and teachers are working extra hard preparing for the Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) in grades 3 - 5. We have been diligently analyzing student data from the iReady Diagnostic Mid-check point, Standard Mastery Test and the Benchmark Standards Assessment (BSA) to deepen instruction and target areas of need. In addition, I’ve been working closely with the teachers and students in providing additional support during small group instruction as another opportunity to practice and strengthen important math skills. Teachers are also incorporating important test taking strategies and tips during math instruction for overall achievement on standardized tests. Please continue to practice math fluency skills at home and provide time for your child to work on iReady and/or Reflex Math daily.Math websites for additional math practice and homework: (Primary K-2) (Primary K-2) (Intermediate 3 -5) (Intermediate 3 -5) (Intermediate 3 -5)00Math CornerMs. Pomales, Math CoachWe are off to a busy time of the school year. Specifically, as?Pacific Standard?reported, the study found that?when it comes to standardized tests, “Regardless of how many books the family already has, each addition to the home library helps children do better.” As a result of these studies, Driftwood Elementary is engaged in our first ever book drive! Students should be able to take home a “new” book. We are also having a vocabulary parade, to provide students with a fun way to build on their oral language and vocabulary. Pictures will be posted on our Facebook site! Lastly, our fourth and fifth grade students are avidly reading the Sunshine State Readers! If students complete 8 of the 15 recommended titles, he/she will be invited to a party at the end of the year. Keep encouraging your child to read at home; we will delve deeper into how you can help at our curriculum night. 00ELA CornerMrs. Moran, Literacy Coach Findings published in the journal?Social Science Research, shows that raising a child in a home filled with books positively impacts his/her future academic growth and job attainment. Our school has been hard at work preparing and making sure our students are ready to do their very best on this year’s state standardized test. How can you help? You can get involved by volunteering as a proctor. Proctors assist the teachers on the day of testing with administering the test to the students. If you are interested, please stop by the front office or call Mrs. Carlo at 754-323-5457. Do you work during the school day but still want to help? Each parent can do their part by making sure your child is here, on time each day and ready to do their very best. Attendance is a simple but VERY important key to success in testing. Together, we can help each of our students to succeed! 00Guidance CornerMrs. Carlo, Guidance CounselorIt’s that time of year again… it’s testing season!
