Since many of my readers enjoyed the Starbucks Guide for Pregnancy, I decided to make a caffeine guide for pregnant Dunkin' Donuts lovers.The current pregnancy guideline regarding caffeine is to avoid caffeine as much as possible. However, the March of Dimes and several other sources say keeping your caffeine under 200mg a day is perfectly acceptable. So, how much coffee is 200mg? Well, it depends on the coffee. Did you know that a shot of espresso has less caffeine than a cup of coffee? Did you know that "light roast" coffees have more caffeine than "dark roast" coffees? Did you know that a 14oz cup of Dunkin' Donuts coffee has 178mg of caffeine? Well, that's why I'm publishing this article: to answer your caffeine questions regarding Dunkin' Donuts coffee beverages.So, what's the deal with coffee coffee? According to , Dunkin' Donuts regular, brewed coffees contain the following amounts of caffeine:Small (10 floz): 132mgMedium (14 floz): 178mgLarge (20 floz): 244mgExtra large (24 floz): 284mgAs you can see, only the small and medium sizes of regular, brewed coffee at Dunkin' Donuts contain a pregnancy-safe level of caffeine for the day. But what about the other coffee drinks?Espresso has 75mg of caffeine per shot. Lattes, cappuccinos, mochas, and other espresso-based drinks at Dunkin' Donuts contain caffeine as follows:Small (10oz): 75mg, 1 shot of espressoMedium (14oz): 97mg, approximately 1.5 shots of espressoLarge (20oz): 151mg, 2 shots of espressoWith Dunkin' Donuts espresso-based beverages, all sizes are within pregnancy-safe caffeine limits for the day. This includes all iced espresso-based beverages.Dunkin' Donuts also sells espresso on its own. It has the same caffeine as the small, medium, and large espresso-based (espresso + milk + sweetener/flavoring, etc.) beverages. You should note that Dunkin' Donuts calls their "double" espresso a double, but it does not contain 2 shots of espresso ? it contains 1.5. If you order a double espresso elsewhere, please remember that there is 75mg of caffeine per shot of traditional espresso. For example, a Starbucks double shot will have 150mg of caffeine vs. Dunkin' Donuts "double" with 97mg. Do not order espresso-based or espresso beverages with 3 shots of caffeine anywhere but Dunkin' Donuts, as those beverages will contain 225mg+ of caffeine. But you know you can't make it through a class with out some caffeine in your system. But you should know, not all Dunkin' drinks will give you the same kick. These measurements also come from the updated amounts from 2015, after Dunkin' added more caffeine to keep up with other chains like Starbucks and Peet's. 1. I wouldn't really recommend buying one if you really need to wake up after an all-nighter. 2. Coffee Coolatta (23 mg) Photo courtesy of @DunkinDonuts at You may have thought that because this drink boasted being filled with coffee that it would be close to the same amount of caffeine in a cup of coffee, but you're actually getting hundreds of milligrams less of caffeine than in just a cup of coffee. 3. Vanilla Chai (59 mg) Photo courtesy of Vanilla Chai may not give you a huge caffeine jolt, but it may give you a sugar high instead. A medium drink is filled to the brim with 46 grams of sugar. 4. Iced Green Tea (60 mg) Photo courtesy of laura_burns at An iced green tea is a good bet if you're not looking for a huge boost of caffeine, but keep in mind to ask for unsweetened. Sweetened has 27 grams of sugar, while unsweetened holds none. 5. Decaf Coffee (74 mg) Photo courtesy of Mike Mozart at If you need decaf because of health reasons, definitely do not get decaf from Dunkin'. It has as much caffeine as one shot of espresso. It's much higher than other chains' decafs. 6. It doesn't have the highest amout of caffeine content, but it's better than nothing, especially if you know you're in for a day of finals. 7. Latte, Iced Latte, Cappuccino, Mocha, Espresso (97 mg) Photo courtesy of Lattes, iced lattes, cappuccinos, and mocha all hold 97 mg in a medium drink ? not all that impressive. A double shot of espresso carries the same amount. You might be expecting a bit more of a boost, but you're actually better off with decaf iced coffee as a pick-me-up. 8. Decaf Iced Coffee (102 mg) Photo courtesy of Decaf iced coffee boosts even more than hot decaf. Again, if you have health problems and can't have caffeine, do not drink Dunkin' decaf iced. It really should not be called decaf. You are drinking more caffeine than in a double shot of espresso. 9. Dunkaccino (106 mg) Photo courtesy of A Dunkaccino is a blend of hot chocolate and coffee so it makes sense that it's pretty high in caffeine. But, like a Vanilla Chai, you should also be prepared for a sugar rush. It carries 37 grams of sugar. 10. All flavors of iced coffee would change the sugar amount, but it would not change the caffeine content. You're always downing 295 mg if you're an iced coffee fanatic like me. 11. This tasted like drinking melted butter pecan ice cream or, as one taster said, like candy. Drinking a large would definitely be a bad idea in retrospect, but it definitely nails the buttery, nutty flavor of the ice cream. Obviously, it's very sweet, so if that's not your thing, move along. Cookie Dough SwirlWhile this is the flavor that sounded best to us in theory, sadly it doesn't quite deliver. Our tasters thought it had the essence of cookie dough, but not really the cookie dough POW they wanted. White Chocolate RaspberryThis flavor nails the raspberry, but not much else. Definitely don't hold your breath for any trace of white chocolate; this is raspberry's show. If you're a raspberry fan, you'll be happy, but I was inclined to agree with the taster who said this tasted like coffee spiked with raspberry vodka. Dunkin' Donuts/Brown-Eyed Baker 8. Rocky Road SwirlWell this does not taste like rocky road ice cream -- in fact, it was described in non-appetizing ways like "too bitter," "artificial" and "tastes like medicine."
