Chinese Prices Surge Following Stimulus Announcements

China and World Export up 16.5% and 1.0%; USA and Western Europe unchanged.

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, NJ ¨C The bi-monthly SteelBenchmarkerTM China HRB price for

October 14th accelerated to $438 per tonne after dropping five consecutive times. The World

Export HRB price increased to $485 per tonne after falling the last four consecutive times.

The United States HRB price remained unchanged at $762 per tonne after rallying three

consecutive times. The Western European HRB price remain unchanged to $600 per tonne

(on a Euro basis, it was up €10) after falling twice.

In its four hundred and forty-fourth report, the SteelBenchmarkerTM released 10 steel

products and 3 USA scrap prices. Of these, here are four benchmark prices for hot-rolled

band October 14, 2024:

USA ¨C $762 per metric tonne ($691 per net ton), FOB the mill ¨C unchanged from $762

($691 nt) two weeks ago, up $350 from the recent low of $412 ($374 nt) on Dec. 14, 2015

and up $333 from the low of $429 per tonne ($390 nt) on May 25, 2009. It is down $244

per tonne from the recent high of $1,006 ($912 nt) on Jul. 11, 2018. Also, it is down $441

from the previous record peak of $1,203 per tonne ($1,091 nt) on July 28, 2008 and down

$1,381 (64.4%) from the record peak of $2,143 per tonne ($1,094 nt) on October 11, 2021.

China ¨C $438 per metric tonne, ex-works ¨C up $62 from $376 two weeks ago, up $207per

tonne from the recent low of $231 on Dec. 14, 2015 and up $31 per tonne from the low of

$407 per tonne on Oct. 12, 2009. It is down $199 per tonne from the recent high of $637

on Aug. 22, 2011. Also, it is down $295 from the previous record peak of $733 per tonne

on July 14, 2008 and down $367 (45.6%) from the record peak of $805 per tonne on May

10, 2021.

Western Europe - $600 (€550) per metric tonne, ex-works ¨C unchanged (up €10) from

$600 (€540) two weeks ago, up $254 (up €225) from the recent low of $346 (€325) on

Nov. 23, 2015 and up $29 (up €169) from the low of $571 (€381) per tonne on Nov. 23,

2009. It is down $252 (down €55) per tonne from the recent high of $852 (€605) on Mar.

28, 2011. Also, it is down $604 (down €206) from the previous record peak of $1,204

(€756) per tonne on July 14, 2008 and down $950 (61.3%) (down €862) (62.0%) from the

record peak of $1,550 (€1,412) per tonne on March 28, 2022.

World Export Price ¨C $485 per metric tonne, FOB the port of export ¨C up $5 from $480

compared to two weeks ago, up $213 per tonne from the recent low of $272 on Feb. 8,

2016 and down $11 from the low of $496 per tonne on Nov. 9, 2009. It is down $288 per

tonne from the recent high of $773 on Feb 14, 2011. Also, it is down $628 from the

previous record peak of $1,113 per tonne on July 28, 2008 and down $790 (62.0%) from

the record peak of $1,275 per tonne on April 11, 2022.
