Course Description:

The title of the book, Street Law represents the content of the course—practical law important in a person’s everyday life, on the street. Information will be presented through student-centered activities that enable teens to develop the skills they would need to use Street Law’s information and to be effective citizens.

Street Law, A Course In Practical Law; Glencoe, 2005

III. Supplies Needed:

A. 3 Ring Binder – 1 ½ Inch Ring

The binder snaps open and closed for easy removal of papers and allows them to be put back into their category easily. I DO NOT allow spiral notebooks.

B. College Ruled Paper

C. 4 Dividers With Pockets

D. Class Assigned Textbook And Workbook

VI. Grading: Lee County Grading Scale

20 % Homework

40% Notebook, Assignments, Activities (PARTICIPATION and D.E.A.R)

40% Quiz and Test Grades

Late Work: Late Work: Course work will be accepted late, however it must be

turned in no later than 1 school week - (5) five days from the due date. Late work

will receive a 50% deduction penalty.

Cheating: School policy – receive a zero on the assignment and a referral will be

written.

Class Objectives – Law Studies

Law Studies will focus on developing in students the knowledge and skills necessary to live in our law-saturated society.

Law Studies:

1. Provides a practical understanding of law and the legal system that will be of use to students in their everyday lives.

2. Improves understanding of the fundamental principals and values underlying the U.S. Constitution, laws and the legal system.

3. Promotes awareness of current issues and controversies relating to law and the legal system.

4. Encourages effective and informed civic participation in our democracy.

5. Brings about a greater sense of justice, tolerance, and fairness.

6. Develops a wiliness and an ability to resolve disputes through informal and, where necessary, formal mechanisms.

7. Improves basic skills, including critical thinking and reasoning, communication, observation, and problem solving.

8. Improves understanding of the roles that law, lawyers, law enforcement officers, and the legal system play in our democracy.

9. Provides exposure to the many vocational opportunities that exist within the legal system.
