Interims: Interims were sent home today! Please sign and return these to school. Be aware that it is still early in the quarter, so these grades could change easily for the better or for the worse. Students do have nightly homework assignments and should be studying at home as well. Making sure that they study, read, and do nightly homework at home will help increase grades.

Spelling: The words to your left will be tested as SPELLING words this week. Please make sure your student knows how to spell all 15 of them. Also, make sure that your student is doing his or her nightly vocabulary homework. These same words will be tested as VOCAB the following week.

Reading and Language Arts: We are finishing Earthquake Terror by Peg Kehret. We are focusing on how the characters and setting have changed since the beginning of the book. We will spend a lot of time talking about what the turning point of a book is and how it affects the theme. In addition, we will be reading from our book club books individually in class and completing graded assignments on what we read.

Social Studies: There will be a state quiz over 11 states on Tuesday, September 27th. Students will need to know what the 5 regions are, all 11 states AND their capitals, and facts about the climate, landforms, and economies of these states. There are flashcards to study with, a study guide in their binder with all of the important information inside, a place the states game to play on my website, an online “Quizlet” game to play on my website, and the “Tour the States” video to watch….So not knowing what to study is NOT an excuse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Math:  Students have begun working with Study Island.  There are currently four assignments reviewing volume that are due in the next two weeks.  Our next topic of study will be place value. Our goal is to help students recognize that in a multi-digit number, a digit in one place represents ten times as much as it represents in the place to its right and 1/10 of what it represents in the place to its left.

Science: We will be continuing our exploration into the diversity of various ecosystems by exploring these important questions: why do earthworms eat dirt; why do pandas eat plants, but polar bears eat meat? We will continue working on our group biome projects in class hoping to put the final touches on by Friday.

Have a great weekend!
