Revelation Chapter 19

V 6-8

- The “Church” is like a bride to Christ because she is:

1. Anticipation of the full consummation of spiritual union with God

2. Pledged for (virginal)

3. Been made pure by the blood of the Lamb

4. Spoken for (Ephesians 5:32; Isaiah 61:10; Jeremiah 13:1-14

5. The groom always takes the bride back to His house (heaven)

V9-10

- Note that it is invitation only (Luke 14:15)

- Christ will not be inviting others who are not family to the wedding feast

- It is a celebration, we are the invited guests

Comparison of the whore and the Bride

| |The whore |The Bride |

|Characteristic |Feeds the preverted sins of mankind |A shining light to the nations |

|Earthly relationships |All over the old world |The new Jerusalem |

|She lives |Gaudy clothes |White wedding dress |

|Drink she offers |Blood of the saints |Water of Life |

|Character of her people |Drunk with sin, torment at loss of Babylon |Forever happy |

|Her inhabitants |Kings, leaders, common sinners |From all nations, tribes and tongues |

|Her fruit |Excesses of the world |Tree of life |

|Her relationship to God |At odds |Fully loved, protecte |

V11-16

- Christ is Faithful and True

1. He is the only warrior who could ever conduct war or judge others in a truly righteous manner

2. He wears many crowns as compared to the antichrist who only had a few. He is the epitome of royalty

3. Robe stained with the blood of sinners (meek but not powerless)

4. Even in heaven there will be some things about Jesus that we will not have access to (like His hidden name). We use the name Yahweh/Jehovah to try to capture this hidden name.

5. Riding white horses have long been used as the mount of conquerors (like the Caesars, even Patton)

6. He is the Word of God, and His Word will be used to destroy sinners (Isaiah 11:4)

7. He is the King of kings, and the Lord of lords

V17-18

(The supper of the great God is not the same as the wedding feast. In actuality, it is the same event as Rev 14:20 and the 7th bowl judgment (Rev 16:17-21). It is the destruction of the evil forces in union with satan on the present earth

- No sinner will escape the coming judgment (Amos 5:18-20; Zechariah 14:1-3; Acts 1:10-11)

- All Jesus has to do is speak to destroy evil (2 Thessalonians 2:8)

V19-21

- The beast = the antichrist, and the false prophet (the false holy spirit) are captured (no problem!) and destroyed in the lake of fire.

- They are punished for leading the revolt against God

- Imagine the eternal torment of the lake of fire

- The demonic beings and evil mankind are killed by His very presence (before being judged

- The evil ones do not even have a chance of actually fighting God. They are powerless

Revelation 20

V1-3

- The abyss (Rev 9:1) and the bottomless pit (hell/hades) are the same place

- God is in control of this place and punishment. Sinners are not allowed to be in the presence of God. Satan is not in control of hell.

- Satan is captured and bound for 1000 years (either literally or symbolically for an extended period

- During this time he is not allowed to deceive the nations (humans alive on the earth who live through the tribulation

- Afterward he is released for a short period of time.(Why?

(Why might satan be temporarily released after Armageddon?

1. To show that peace and security will not save the souls of men (those living through the tribulation)

2. To show that living in a righteous environment will not save

3. To show that the most excellent government will not save

4. To show that man is naturally rebellious

5. To show that man does not naturally seek after God

6. To show that satan is incapable of changing. He will always covet God’s position

7. That nothing but Christ’s blood was good enough for the salvation of man’s heart

(What is the purpose of the millennium?

1. The fulfillment of prayer and prophecy

2. A perfect government is established

3. A reward for the faithful

4. A period to commune more closely with God (as an heir/bride)

5. Weeding out of those who are eventually enticed by satan’s temporary release

6. Preparation for the new heaven/new earth

7. Note: mankind will be leading every day lives during this period

V4-6

- Thrones (Matthew 19:28) as represented by believers/apostles who shall be judges

- This first throne judgment is probably for believers coming out of the tribulation (get new bodies, other believers already partially transformed?). This is the first general resurrection.

- Those of evil killed during and before the tribulation are held (not in heaven) and await their judgment.

V7-10

- After a period of time, satan will be released and once again deceive those living on earth.

- People will have families and generations not having experienced the tribulation will fall into sin

- Once again, a global war will be led by satan to fight against God (Ezekiel 38:2)

- The evil will surround Jerusalem but there will be no war as God will simply destroy them (it will not be like the tribulation period)

- Satan forced in the lake of fire for eternal torment

V20:11-15

- Great white throne

- All will stand before God to be judged using two books (book of life for salvation, other book to note our Christian actions):

1. Unbelievers to the lack of fire

2. Believers on their spiritual fruits for rewards

3. Nations on their treatment of Israel

4. The 2nd death is the final spiritual (and eternal death ) of all of the unredeemed

- Death (the result of sin) and hell (the abode of sinners) was destroyed. Death and hell will no longer be needed anymore as sin is removed for the eternal kingdom
