SUMMER CAMP POLICIES FOR PARENTS

To clarify our policies and avoid confusion, please read the following information and acknowledge that you have read by signing and returning the signature page. We will be happy to answer any questions you might have after reading these policies.

HOURS

SSDC is open Monday thru Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Any parent whose child is picked up after 6:00 p.m. will be charged a late fee of $1.00 per minute, payable to the employee who stayed with your child.

REGISTRATION & TUITION

A non-refundable registration fee of $40 and an activity fee of $20 ($60 total) are paid yearly at the time of registration. The activity fee helps defray the cost of a camp t-shirt and special activities or shows at camp. The weekly tuition fee is $_______________ for _________ days per week. You must pay for the number of days that your child is registered, whether or not your child attends. If you need to add or switch a day during the week there will be an additional fee for that week. Tuition is due on the 1st day of your week. There will be a $30 charge for any check returned by our bank. The amount of the check, plus fees, will have to be paid in cash. You are required to give two weeks notice if you will be withdrawing your child from camp early. All forms MUST be returned completely filled out before your child can attend camp. Please keep us informed of any address or phone changes—home or work.

WEEKLY REGISTRATION

SSDC offers families the option of registering for less than the 12 week session. If you choose this option you must register for each week you wish your child to attend and pay a $25 deposit per week, per child. This non-refundable deposit will be applied to that week’s tuition. Tuition for individual weeks will be $170 for five full days. Less than five days will be $37 per day.

ARRIVAL & DEPARTURE

Please be sure to sign your camper in on the sign-in sheet in the office upon arrival and departure. Children will be released to authorized persons only. Proof of ID is required for those people we do not know. During the summer, parking is a problem in the afternoon so we have a schedule of going-home times for all campers. We will try to have your camper ready to go when you arrive. If your going-home time changes, please notify the office so that your child will be able to swim and be ready for your arrival. PLEASE BACK OUT OF OUR PARKING LOT AND DRIVE UP TO THE CIRCLE TO LEAVE THE STREET. ALSO, NEIGHBORS HAVE EXPRESSED CONCERN REGARDING SOME DRIVERS USING EXCESSIVE SPEED ON THE STREET. PLEASE OBEY THE 25 MPH SPEED LIMIT.

FIELD TRIPS

ALL FIELD TRIPS, UNLESS SPECIFIED, MUST BE PAID IN CASH ON THE MONDAY ONE WEEK PRIOR TO THE DATE OF THE TRIP (excluding the first trip, of course). All field trips must be paid for in advance and there are no refunds for missed trips or transferring of funds from one trip to another. WHEN PAYING FOR TRIPS PLEASE PUT THE MONEY IN AN ENVELOPE AND WRITE YOUR CHILD’S NAME, WHICH TRIP YOU ARE PAYING FOR AND THE AMOUNT YOU ARE ENCLOSING ON THE FRONT. Envelopes are available at the desk if you need one. Space is limited for trips and will be available on a first-pay basis. Please let us know as soon as possible which trips your child will be taking. Campers on our trips are very well supervised. We expect exemplary behavior and manners from all campers. Any child who misbehaves on a trip may not be allowed to go on the next trip. First Student Bus Co. provides transportation for all trips. A listing of trips and their cost should be available by the end of April/ beginning of May.

SUNSCREENING

We will use sunscreen on your camper and we will apply it quite often, especially in June. Please sunscreen at home in the morning before coming to camp. We do have sunscreen at camp but campers are welcome to bring their own to use. You must sign a separate form for this sunscreen, available at the desk. Please put their name on the bottle or can and it must be given to a teacher or counselor. They cannot keep it in their bag.

ITEMS TO BRING FROM HOME

The following items must be brought to camp every day: LUNCH AND A DRINK IN A COOLER (SUCH AS PLAYMATE), ICE PACK, SWIM SUIT, TOWEL AND A TOTE BAG (NOT A PLASTIC GROCERY BAG) WITH A CLOSURE. You may send swim shoes for your camper if you wish. ALL ITEMS MUST BE CLEARLY MARKED WITH YOUR CAMPER’S NAME. NO DRINKS IN GLASS BOTTLES OR PAPER LUNCH BAGS WILL BE ALLOWED. SSDC is not responsible for personal items brought to camp. WE DO NOT REFRIGERATE LUNCHES AND WE DO NOT HEAT LUNCHES. BE SURE TO SEND AN ICE PACK.

PERSONAL ITEMS

Children are allowed to bring personal items such as electronics, etc. If cell phones are brought, they must be for games only and not activated. Children are not allowed to make or received calls or texts while at camp, including from their parents. If you need to get a message to your child call the office and we will get it to them. CHILDREN ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY ITEMS THEY CHOOSE TO BRING. We do not keep track of personal items. Children are expected to follow our rules regarding the use of personal property, i.e., no sharing of headphones; no playing with someone else’s game, etc. Campers will not be allowed to charge electronics at camp. If a child is not acting responsibly regarding his property, personal items may be taken away. There are designated areas where children are allowed to play with these items and we will limit the amount of time they can be played with. IT IS STRONGLY ADVISED THAT CAMPERS WEAR TENNIS SHOES TO CAMP. CHILDREN ARE PLAYING, CLIMBING AND RUNNING ALL DAY. FLIP FLOPS CAN BE DANGEROUS. CAMPERS MAY BRING FLIP FLOPS TO BE WORN TO AND FROM THE POOL, IF DESIRED.

MEDICATION

If you wish to have us administer medication to your child, you must fill out an authorization form for each medication dispensed. These forms are available at the desk. Your child’s full name and dosage must be clearly

marked on the bottle. SSDC does not provide medicine and children should never be allowed to carry medicine to camp. Prescription medicine can only be dispensed to the child whose name is on the prescription.

We have rarely had a problem with head lice in summer camp, however, if a child is found to have head lice they will not be able to come back to camp until they have been treated and all nits have been removed.

3

SPECIAL NEEDS

Those children with special medical needs (asthma, ADD, ADHD, etc.) must provide written information from their doctor regarding treatment and required medication.

HOLIDAYS & VACATIONS

SSDC is closed for the July 4th holiday. If the 4th falls on a Saturday we will be closed Friday, the 3rd. If it falls on Sunday we will be closed on Monday, the 5th. We base our camp on a 12-week program. Each child is allowed a one-week vacation without charge during those 12 weeks, unless that week has been previously taken during the school year. Families choosing the weekly option do not receive a free vacation week. They pay for all weeks their child attends.

SWIMMING

All campers are expected to participate in swimming activities every day, including lessons. If your camper cannot swim on a particular day, for whatever reason, we must have a note from the parent; otherwise, the camper will be expected to swim. Swim lessons will be given four times a week for 1st – 3rd graders, two times a week for 4th and up. If you feel your older child needs more lesson time, please contact the office. Lessons for older campers center mostly on improving and learning new strokes. You may send swim shoes for your child if you wish.

ICE CREAM

We will have ice cream treats available as an alternative for PM snack for $.50. If your camper wishes to have ice cream, please pay by the week, cash only. If you prefer you may pay a lump sum (i.e., $5) and the desk will let you know when your money needs to be replenished. WHEN PAYING FOR ICE CREAM PUT MONEY IN AN ENVELOPE AND WRITE THE CAMPER’S NAME, WHAT YOU ARE PAYING FOR AND THE AMOUNT OF MONEY IN THE ENVELOPE. Please do not send money with your camper.

DAILY SCHEDULE

6:00-8:15 – Free play as campers arrive (includes playground, games, reading, applying sunscreen, etc.)

8:15–9:00 – Roll call, daily announcements, AM snack

following each day: swim (lessons & free swim), arts & crafts, science, games, field trips,

playground and lunch.

3:00-3:30 – Snack

3:30-6:00 – Free swim, other activities, going home

Schedule may change due to field trips, special guests or activities.

ACCIDENTS

If your child is injured while at camp an accident report will be filled out and filed. Parents receive a copy. If the injury is minor we will administer first aid. If it is more serious you will be called to instruct us.

CELL PHONES

Please end all cell phone calls in your car, both when dropping off and picking up your child. Your children need for you to concentrate on them for that minute or two that it takes for you to walk them up the sidewalk in the morning. They also deserve your undivided attention when you pick them up. Many times there is something that the person at the desk needs to discuss with you so hang that phone up before you get out of your car!

DISCIPLINE & GUIDANCE

Discipline and guidance are consistent, based on an understanding of individual needs and development, which promote self-discipline and acceptable behavior. Children are never punished. They may be asked to talk with the Director, take “time out”, fix the problem or give up a privilege. If a situation requiring discipline persists, the parent will be notified.

OPEN DOOR POLICY

Parents & visitors are always welcome. For the protection of our children we do not allow unescorted adults in camp, so please stop at the desk and we will gladly assist you. We welcome constructive criticism and suggestions which will improve our service. We hope you feel comfortable enough to talk freely about anything concerning your child and our camp.

We are excited about our summer program and having your child with us. We are planning a fun summer.
