Dear Parent/ Guardian,

I hope this letter finds you well. In an effort to keep all of our students reading at- or above level over the summer months, I am happy to announce that our teachers have crafted summer reading projects that will help us achieve this goal.

In order for our students to reach their full potential, they need a strong foundation in reading and writing. Reading outside of the classroom is critical for maintaining and expanding a child’s literacy skills, especially over the extended summer break. In fact, research suggests that students should spend a minimum of 20- 30 minutes a day reading outside of the classroom. To that end, we hope that these projects will help students remain active and vivacious readers over the summer.

All summer reading projects will be posted in the students’ ELA Google Classrooms beginning Monday, June 22, 2020. They will also be posted on our school’s website – . There are digital links to the books embedded so that students can access the books electronically. Students are expected to return these projects to their new ELA teachers on Monday, September 22nd, 2020. Please note that these projects are mandatory and will count towards students’ grades.

Thank you in advance for supporting the literacy development of all our students!
