THE PENINSULA HOTELS INVITES GUESTS TO

MAKE CHINESE NEW YEAR 2015 MEMORABLE WITH A

GLAMOROUS CELEBRATION OF CHINESE CULTURE AND CUISINES

The Year of the Ram is welcomed at The Peninsula Hotels around the world with authentic

family feasts, exclusive cultural experiences and luxurious treats and surprises

Chinese New Year is the most cherished festival of the Chinese calendar, and with a history stretching back to 1866 as China’s first luxury hospitality brand, The Peninsula heralds the Year of the Ram in ultimate style and sophistication. Celebrating the company’s unique Chinese heritage, The ten Peninsula hotels worldwide have curated glamorous and inspiring experiences for all the family to enjoy. Guests will enjoy a Chinese New Year season hallmarked by authentic seasonal dining, luxury stays, exclusive family experiences and cultural activities and themed spa treatments.

Timeless cultural traditions to relish and share. During the holiday period, each hotel will be festooned with red flowers and lanterns, symbolising good luck, plus pink plum blossoms and Kumquat bushes laden with prosperous golden-orange fruit. Traditional lion dances will captivate guests both young and old, while loud drumbeats and cymbal crashes expel evil spirits. The timeless custom of giving lucky red envelopes is upheld at all Peninsula hotels, and good fortune and health will be beckoned into the guestrooms, with seasonal in-room amenities including tangerines, melon seeds, dumplings and chocolate coins.

A heart-warming video filmed in Hong Kong showcases the colourful customs of Chinese New Year at The Peninsula. The film follows a pageboy as he walks through a Chinese garden, visits a Buddhist temple, and hangs red lanterns. During his journey, he watches a lion dance, peeks into The Peninsula kitchen to see chefs hand-carve chocolate lions and pan-fry dumplings, and serves a sumptuous New Year-themed Afternoon Tea. The video culminates with kaleidoscopic images of the annual fireworks display over Victoria Harbour.

The quintessential flavours of Chinese New Year. Sharing an authentic Chinese banquet with family and friends is a treasured part of the 8 Chinese New Year tradition. Throughout the holiday, special menus and exquisite seasonal dishes will be served at The Peninsula’s signature Chinese restaurants.

The Chinese New Year culinary experience is perfectly defined at The Peninsula Hong Kong with three traditional 10-course Spring Menus, named Longevity, Fortune and Wealth. An annual highlight of the Hong Kong calendar, the fabulous Fireworks Dinner on 20 February features dim sum, luxurious Chinese dishes

Festive gourmet highlights in the Chinese capital include an 8-course Chinese Dinner served family-style at Huang Ting at The Peninsula Beijing, plus optional Chinese rice wine. Guests can also watch a fireworks display at Yun Bar while dining at specially created dumpling and noodle soup stations.

Lucky culinary wishes come true at The Peninsula Tokyo, where the festive five-course Wishes lunch menu and six-course Lucky dinner menu will enchant gourmands at Hei Feng Terrace Restaurant. On 20 and 21 February, New Year diners will be entertained by a traditional lion dance and serenaded by live Chinese Koso music. Mei Jiang Restaurant at The Peninsula Bangkok will present two auspicious Chinese set menus, Fortune and Wealth, and the exclusive Chef’s Table presents exquisite seasonal menus for Chinese New Year. In the Philippines, the chefs at The Peninsula Manila will prepare a celebratory Chinese New Year Brunch showcasing authentic Chinese entrees and delicacies paired with free-flow of Champagne at Escolta.

The Peninsula Chicago will delight guests with a classic prix-fixe Chinese New Year menu created by Chef de Cuisine Ivan Yuen at Shanghai Terrace, and a specialty Spring Festival cocktail will be mixed in The Bar.

Festive Afternoon Teas to indulge the senses. Chinese New Year is a time to savour memorable experiences with loved ones and close friends in a refined and relaxed environment. The signature Peninsula Afternoon Tea at each hotel will be reimagined with distinctive sweet and savoury Chinese flavours for the holiday. Afternoon diners at The Peninsula Beijing can experience a taste of history at the Emperor’s Tea Party, featuring a three-tiered silver tray of Chinese savoury delicacies treats and sweet treats.

Luxurious accommodations and unique family privileges. The Chinese New Year is a time to share precious moments with loved ones, and family guests staying at the ten Peninsula properties across the globe will enjoy special holiday surprises. The Peninsula Tokyo greets their guests with offerings including a daily Chinese breakfast and a Chinese dinner at Hei Fung Terrace. In Hong Kong, families can share a traditional Peninsula breakfast and take part in a half-day class to learn how to perform a traditional Chinese lion dance. Family holidaymakers in Manila can take advantage of dining or spa credit redeemable throughout the hotel, plus complimentary tickets for a private tour of the Ayala Museum.

Glamorous spa treatments for timely seasonal rejuvenation. The Spring Festival is the perfect time to reinvigorate body and mind ready for the New Year ahead. Spa guests at The Peninsula Beijing can indulge in a deluxe Oriental Thermal Fusion wellness journey. The pampering begins with warm poultices infused with Ginseng, Ginger, Gingko Leaf and Cassia rolled over the body’s energy centres, followed by a revitalising facial combined with Chinese acupressure. Spa rejuvenation at The Peninsula Hong Kong includes Vital Qi: a two-hour Chinese Meridian and Foot Massage to restore vitality and vigour by assisting the movement of stagnant Qi and increasing the health of body and mind. At The Peninsula Paris, the 90-minute Vital Energy treatment is based on the element of wood, which represents the year 2015, and features a becalming reflexology foot ritual and a stimulating acupressure body massage.

City tours take on an exciting extra dimension with The Peninsula’s fleet of chauffeur-driven Rolls-Royce Phantoms, customized Mini Cooper cars and helicopters (available at certain Peninsula hotels) available for luxurious airport transfers or sightseeing trips. Guests at The Peninsula Shanghai are offered the chance to experience a luxury Huangpu River cruise to gain a unique perspective of the city’s dramatic skyline.
