RE: Co-op Credit and Employment Opportunity with FOCUS ON YOUTH PROGRAM

Please find enclosed general information about a paid summer Cooperative Education opportunity with the Toronto Catholic District School Board. This opportunity provides you with the possibility to earn a secondary school cooperative education credit while you are employed with the FOCUS ON YOUTH PROGRAM.

The program offers you (approx. 150 student placements) employment opportunities with the TCDSB in the following placement areas:

( Custodial (Administrative (Work with Community Organizations Delivering Child and Youth Programming

You will have opportunity to work for 3 or 6 weeks during the summer and you will earn $12/hour while you complete a one credit cooperative education program

Benefits of participation in this program:

• Leadership skill development

• Employability skills development,

• Employment (full time) for 3/6 weeks, starting in July,

• One credit earned through the co-op program.

Selection Criteria for Student Acceptance Into the Paid Summer Co-op Program:

• Living within/adjacent to designated postal code areas (see attached map)

• 16 – 18 years of age as of June 30, 2008;

• Enrolled in school and attending classes to date

• Reliable, responsible, personable, willing to learn

• Potential for/Evidence of leadership roles in school and/or community

Program Details:

• Deadline for receipt of application packages is April 30, 2008;

• Information Orientation will take place on May 11th 2008;

• Pre-placemen/pre-employment training will take place through on-line learning during the month of June;

• Integration will take place on July 21st , 2008;

• Last day of Co-op program is July 29th, 2008.

• Hours at the placement will be determined by the employer but must equal at least 30 hours per week in order to meet the minimum number of hours required to earn a credit;

• Daily attendance is mandatory to earn a credit;

• 3 days of absences will result in automatic removal from the program and therefore loss of credit.

Application Process for the 1 credit Paid Co-op Program

Students will:

• complete COOPERATIVE EDUCATION/EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION form and submit it (along with required documentation) to the Toronto Catholic contact person

• receive telephone call/e-mail regarding a mandatory co-op information/orientation session with details of the date, time and place;

• Attend the co-op information/orientation session.

Students will be accepted into the program based on the selection criteria, their co-op application form and successful referrals from administrators/teachers.

Each application package must include the following:

• Attendance Report ______

• Credit Counselling Summary ______

Application packages must be stapled or clipped together.
