Thank a U.S. Military Chaplain!

Minister to our brave Military men and women ?

Father Emil Kapuan, who served as a U.S. Army chaplain during the Korean War, celebrates Mass in a field. Fr. Kapuan later died in a Korean P.O.W. camp and was awarded the Medal of Honor for his bravery there.

Catholic Chaplains serve Catholics in the Military

on land, in air and at sea.

As the people in our military do the difficult work of protecng our freedom,

Catholic chaplains walk beside them, providing the spiritual and emoonal strength they need.

The work of chaplains is not confined to the chapel. They go wherever their people are--in a tent in the desert, on the deck of an aircra carrier, in the barracks on

base, on a fire-fighng line, in the VA hospital, in the halls of the Pentagon.

"It was a Catholic Chaplain who took me under his wing and brought me into the faith. Imagine taking RCIA classes in a combat zone. Eventually, he led me to

my bapsm in the River Jordan and opened my eyes to a new world.

Because military service requires extraordinary sacrifices of those who serve and their families, chaplains strive to

make themselves available and present, day or night, to offer guidance, educaon, and direcon on Church

I can't express how important a Chaplain of any faith is to the troops in the field.

Cards and Leers may be dropped off at our Cathedral Centre 1701 San Jacinto Street, Houston, TX 77002 Monday--Friday and Sundays. Our Outreach Ministry will be mailing them for you. Our Outreach Ministry is the approved Houston mailbox for . We invite individuals, schools, churches, businesses, and other organizations to write cards, letters, emails, and prayer messages of appreciation for our military, past and present. It is our goal to see that our military ? active, reserve, and veterans ? receive these messages, whether they are serving at home, abroad, or are injured in hospitals. To get started, read the guidelines below.

Due to privacy and security, we do not distribute names or addresses of service members to anyone for any reason.

We ask that you address the letters generically. We cannot send specifically-addressed cards or letters.

Do not put letters or cards in individual envelopes or include additional postage. Send multiple letters together in the same envelope or box, but please bundle the letters in

stacks of no more than 50 with rubberbands to keep them together. Bundle the letters or cards in like sizes. Do not send edible items or other care package items. Do not use glitter, confetti, or anything that is not securely attached to the letter or card. Only include positive messages. Any negative messages will be discarded. Be creative! Draw pictures, talk about you, and let them know their service does not go unnoticed. Include your address or email address if you wish. Most military will write back to you!

*Attention parents and/or teachers of young children: We ask that if children are too young to include a message of thanks, please write one on their behalf so our service members get a message along with a drawing.

If you would like to send themed cards, we ask that you respect the following deadlines: 1. Thanksgiving cards and letters should be postmarked no later than November 1. 2. Christmas/holiday cards and letters should be postmarked no later than December 1. 3. Valentines cards and letters should be postmarked no later than January 15. 4. Memorial Day themed cards should be postmarked no later than April 15. 5. Fourth of July themed cards should be postmarked no later than June 1.

**If any of the above guidelines and deadlines are not followed, please know your letters may not be sent. Thank you!
