This information leaflet is to inform you of the curriculum that we will be teaching to your children this term. Our topic this term is World War II, linked to our Kelham Island visit. During the Spring Term, we will be travelling back to 1939 – the start of the Second World War, attempting to answer our BIG question, ’How does war change lives?’. During the first half term, we will be learning about this from the perspective of British people on ‘The Home Front’. We will then move on, after Half Term, to Germany, learning about the Holocaust linked to ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’.Our class novel will be, ‘Letters from the Lighthouse’ by Emma Carroll. This will link perfectly to our STEM project! With regards to home learning, we ask that you try to hear your child read regularly, continue to prepare for SATs using the CGP materials. Homework will be given weekly from these. Please visit your child’s class blog regularly on the school website to see some of the amazing learning your child is involved in. Please call and speak to your child’s class teacher if you have any questions. Thank you,Mrs Graham (Class Teacher) Mrs J Cook (Head Teacher) Mrs. J.K Fearnley (Exec. We will then look at fractions, decimals and percentages. All Maths learning will be set with SATs in mind – the children will have opportunities, every lesson, to apply their learning to SATs style problems, to familiarise themselves and build their confidence, in preparation. 00English (Literacy) and MathematicsIn Literacy, this term, our writing will be inspired, firstly by ‘Goodnight Mister Tom’ and later, after Half Term, by ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’.In Maths, we will be starting with number and place value, moving onto formal written methods for multiplication and division.
