The word Halloween or Hallowe'en dates to about 1745 and is of Christian origin. The word "Hallowe'en" means "Saints' evening". It comes from
a Scottish term for All Hallows' Eve (the evening before All Hallows' Day).
Huggin' Molly | Abbeville, Alabama
It's best to stay home when the sun sets in Abbeville, Alabama, if you want to avoid Huggin " Molly's chilly embrace. As the legend goes, beginning in the early 1900s, an oversize figure clad in all black began roaming the streets at night looking for unsuspecting victims. Once she fixates on someone, she hugs the person and screams ever-so-loudly into their ears. Many people have recounted stories of being chased by what they believe was Huggin' Molly. Local parents have been even taken advantage of the story to keep their children in line. The town embraces its nightime warden, proudly calling itself the "home of Huggin' Molly," There's even a family-friendly restaurant named after her!
The Surrency House Ghost | Surrency, Georgia
The Surrency clan began experiencing paranormal activities in present day Surrency, Georgia, in the 1870s. Family members reported witnessing objects soaring across rooms, hearing laughter and crying, and seeing red eyes staring into the house. Food was thrown from their plates and utensils twisted into unusable shapes. The townspeople speculated that these occurrences were cries for help from spirits who thought the family would be able to save them. On the day the family decided to finally leave the house, a fire iron allegedly floated up and started hitting one of the sons on the head. No one was ever brave enough to live in the house again, and the building went up in flames in 1925.

We had our first meeting after a long hiatus and it was so great to see over 40 faces in the room enjoying each other's company and breakfast. Several important topics were discussed, including waiving of dues for next year, newsletter fees, and the officer picnic. You will soon receive an email asking for your vote on these topics. The ballot will be sent to the primary ACTC member we have on file (one per household) so please be on the lookout for it soon after you receive this newsletter. As these issues had a lot of input from members and are related to how we manage the funds for the club, we felt it was best to ask membership in a majority vote for these issues. If you are unable to cast your vote online and need to send it in via mail, please reach out to myself and we will make arrangements. You can find my contact details and address in the club directory. Our next club meeting is October 11th back at the Arrowhead Country Club starting at 8:30AM. The facility is able to accommodate a group our size and the prices for breakfast is reasonable at $15 per person. Bob Michele has been working diligently to find another space for our group but the selection is limited and prices are higher at other venues. We will continue to work on this matter and will bring it up during our next meeting to get member input. Officer elections are coming up in November, if you are interested in any of the officer positions or running membership; please reach out to Ken Faulkenberry or myself so we can add your name to the ballot. Making an impact and a difference is what serving as an officer is all about, if you have a passion for the club and want to see it continue please consider running.
The headlines read: ACTC TURNS 30!!! To refresh your memory, Jack Jordan and 5 other members founded our club on October 11, 1970. (They happened to be all MEN) The newsletter started officially in 1972 which was year no. #2, but year 1971 was lost to "antiquity". We took at trip Palm Springs where the first 1955 and the One Million numbered Thunderbirds were on display. (I don't remember any of that) (Anybody else?)
Our new "Tech Day" column first appeared this year. Can you guess what the first Major question was??? "How do you keep the Tbirds running cool"? (Some things never change) Harlan Hamilton though that drilling some extra holes in the heads would help??? The meetings at the local (no name listed) cost $2.75 a person. (no mention of a tip)
Auto emissions became a big part of everyone's concerns as our State and US Gov't were getting involved. However, Arizona's state government assured us that all "classic" cars would be excluded. Our 1973 newsletter supported this exclusion.
May 1973 was a tough month for ACTC Thunderbirds. One was hit head-on and another hit on the right side. Apparently sheet metal was the only casualty. There were 65 households in ACTC by then. A 10 fold increase in less than 3 years. Had that rate of growth continued we would have had every person in the world (5,000,000) signed up. Just think how hard it would have been to have found parking spaces for everyone! Our monthly meetings averaged 30-45 people.
ACTC was forever changed (for the better) when Anne Hoag said that she didn't want a new car. Just a Classic 55-56-57 Tbird!! (She was so smart) . Some folks were putting A/C units in their little Birds. Don Henderson became a Millionaire that year. Don Charged $350. Wow!

Getting to know you:
Chuck & Linda Backer
Page 6
Chuck and Linda Backer moved to Arizona by way of Wyoming and Colorado in 1997. Chuck's career was initially with Newspaper Circulation (35 years) but has spent the last 20 years in auto parts. Linda began her career in Marketing Research, later in Administration for universities in Colorado, Wyoming, and ASU. Both are now 100% retired. Primarily natives of California, the couple enjoy AZ weather, and driving with the top down. Chuck has long been a car enthusiast: serving as President of the Colorado 4WD Assn. and owning many classic cars (for the most part, one at a time!) But his lifelong desire was for a 50's t-bird, so he made the plunge last October buying a '56 that he is still making corrections to. Their children and grandchildren are scattered from Minneapolis to Seattle to Portland to Sydney, Australia. We enjoy visits from their friends in the north who want to escape winter snows. We hope to participate in more club events as the weather cools and the pandemic disappears!

SERVICES ARE DELAYED AT THIS TIME BUT WI LL BE HELD WHEN IT IS SAFE TO DO SO. I WILL POST TO YOU ALL WHEN SERVICES ARE SCHEDIULED.
YOU ARE ALL APPRECIATED AND LOVED.
DONI BODELL
Sadly this has been a bad start to the new year. The Covid 19 has put everything to a stand still. When are loved ones get sick we can't go visit them.
I was talking to one of the doctors at Banner Thunderbird Hospital. She said that a lot of relatives of the sick go out on the top floor of the parking garage with signs expressing their LOVE.
We have had several members pass away and the families are unable to make service arrangements. This bug can't keep us down forever so plans will be made and we will honor our loved ones properly.
