Return to Normalcy
? After the war Americans wanted to return to a normal life.
? Warren Harding won the Presidency by using the slogan "Return to Normalcy". His time as President was full of scandal, even though he was never linked to them.
? Teapot Dome Scandal- Secretary of the Interior took a bribe for $400,000 to let a private company get oil from government land. It was the first time a member of the president's cabinet went to jail.
Calvin Coolidge
? After Harding died of a heart attack in office Coolidge took over.
? He was known for his honesty and integrity.
? His time in office was helped by a booming economy.
Foreign Policy
? Although WWI had made the US a world power, most Americans still believed in isolationism.
? The US promoted disarmament to prevent the militarism that caused WWI.
? Americans were beginning to learn about Communism and were beginning to fear it.
