This includes both the unit commander and the platoon guide. Each team must be organized into three (3) squads with each member armed with a rifle. The unit commander must carry either a sword with belt and scabbard, or a rifle.The platoon guide must carry a standard eight-foot (8’) staff with the unit guidon attached.Each school may enter only one (1) team in the platoon drill competition.UniformEach unit must wear the Midshipman Khaki Uniform, or the service equivalent, with nametapes, ribbons, and class petition AreaThe platoon drill competition will be held in the RPAC basketball courts, a hardwood surface, plan for a fifty-foot by fifty-foot (50’ by 50’) drill area marked by cones. It will also be emailed out to all schools upon request.Endurance Race CompetitionDate24 March 2018 (Saturday) LocationsThe Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion1847 Neil Ave, Columbus, OH 43210Converse Hall2121 Tuttle Park Place, Columbus, OH 43210The Ohio State University campusTeam Size and CompositionThere will be two (2) competition divisions: a male and a female.Each team will consist of four (4) individuals with no age or service requirements.Schools may submit up to two (2) male teams and up to two (2) female teams. Only the top male team and female team scores will be used for the overall score. UniformEach team will wear ‘boots and utes’ for the duration of the race. Team members must wear the service appropriate utility trousers and a matching PT shirt. Water sources such as camelbaks are highly recommended but not required as there will be water stations set up along the route.Course OverviewThe Endurance Race will start in the pool at the Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion and will finish at Converse Hall. Teams will be escorted by a Midshipman bike marshal on a ten (10) to sixteen (16) mile route throughout the Ohio State University campus. The course will be continuous with various stations set up along the way intended to test each team’s overall fitness, communication skills, and cohesion. Teams should be prepared to carry weight for the entirety of the course. Female teams will run the same course.GearThe Ohio State University NROTC unit will provide any equipment necessary to compete in the Endurance Race.Rifle / Pistol CompetitionDate23 March 2018 (Friday) LocationConverse Hall, Lt. Hugh W. Wylie Range 2121 Tuttle Park Place, Columbus, OH 43210Team Size and CompositionEach team must consist of four (4) shooters for the rifle competition and four (4) shooters for the pistol competition.Individuals can compete in both the rifle and pistol competitions.Schools are not required to submit both a rifle and a pistol team.Each school may enter only one (1) rifle and one (1) pistol team.UniformEach team will wear either NWU’s, MCCUU’s, the service equivalent uniform, or unit polos with jeans and closed toe shoes. Shooting accessories such as jackets, mats, and spotting scopes will be allowed.WeaponsTeams will shoot with standard .22 caliber rifles and pistols.It is the responsibility of each school to bring their own ammunition. Track spikes will not be permitted. Females must wear a one-piece swimsuit. There are no age, gender, or service requirements.Schools may submit only one (1) flag football team.UniformEach football team must wear a matching uniform and any appropriate corresponding athletic attire. Football cleats will be permitted. Flags will be provided by the Ohio State University NROTC unit.Tournament OverviewEvery game will consist of two 15-minute halves with a running clock, except for the final two minutes of the game. The officials will be referees employed by the Ohio State University Recreational Sports. A more detailed list of rules will be made available on the OSU NROTC webpage and will be emailed out prior to the event start date.Ship Handling CompetitionDate24 March 2018 (Saturday)LocationConverse Hall2121 Tuttle Park Place, Columbus, OH 43210Team Size and CompositionEach bridge team will consist of two (2) individuals with no age, gender, or service requirements.One team member will play to role of “conn” while the other member will play the role of “lee helm” and “helm.”Each school may enter up to two (2) teams. Only the top team’s score will be used in determining the overall score.UniformBridge teams will wear NWU’s/MCCUU’s.Ship Handling OverviewBridge teams will be given a scenario on the Mariner Skills Simulator (MSS), a Navy ship simulator with a set-up that consists of a set of individual workstations, comprised of two monitors each, arranged in a classroom setting. Teams must communicate using standard commands to maneuver through a given track. The competition will be a race with the fastest team to complete the course taking first place.Unit Staff ChallengeDate24 March 2018 (Saturday)LocationConverse Hall2121 Tuttle Park Place, Columbus, OH 43210Team Size and CompositionThis will be an individual event with only unit staff members from each school allowed to compete.There is no limit to the number of staff members each school may submit. However, only the top staff member’s score from each school will be used in determining the overall score.UniformIt is recommended that each competing staff member wears PT gear, however, there is no mandatory uniform.Staff Competition OverviewThe staff challenge will be a surprise event. Information will only be released on-site immediately before the start of the competition. OSU NROTC staff members will not have any input on the challenge and will be informed of the events at the same time as the staff from all other units. SCORING AND AWARDSOverall WinnerThe overall winner of the 2018 Buckeye Nation NROTC Drill Competition will be determined by adding up the total points earned by each school from each event using the weighted scoring scale listed below.Endurance Race (male) – 12.5%Endurance Race (female) – 12.5%Platoon Drill – 10%Rifle Competition – 10%Pistol Competition – 10%Squad Drill – 8%Color Guard – 8%Track Meet – 8%Swim Meet – 8%Flag Football Tournament – 8%Ship Handling – 5%Unit Staff Challenge – Bonus 5%AwardsTrophies will be awarded to the schools who take first, second, and third place overall.Trophies will also be awarded to teams that take first, second, and third place in each event except for the Track Meet, Swim Meet, and Flag Football Tournament. Trophies will only be awarded to first place in each of those events.In addition, trophies will be awarded to the top shooter in both the rifle and pistol competitions.Awards CeremonyAt the conclusion of all events, an award ceremony will be held in Remembrance Park as the primary location and/or The Shoe (Ohio Stadium – Tentative). All schools are encouraged to attend; however, the ceremony is not mandatory. The uniform will be either NWU’s, MCCUU’s, the service equivalent uniform, or unit polos. Alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase for those who are of a legal drinking age.
