Message from the Principal - Early Release Mondays - Teacher collaboration is vital to our educational program. It provides the opportunity for colleagues in grade and subject level departments to collaborate as well as allowing teachers across grade levels and school levels (e.g., elementary and middle school) to meet. Collaboration time is used for professional work focused on instructional practices, differentiation, assessment, professional development, and curriculum review in concert with the State review cycle (currently English/Language Arts). Our once-a-month collaboration afternoons have been highly successful.

In addition, such collaboration affords a consistent approach to the ongoing work that drives classroom practices and instruction. Therefore, during the 2010 ? 2011 school year, we will be piloting a new collaboration model: early release Mondays. All students will attend school on Mondays from 7:55am ? 1:55pm. Other school districts have found this schedule to work very successfully for their students and families. In creating this new schedule, we are committed to maintaining instructional minutes. Since this is a pilot, we will be evaluating its effectiveness to determine how to move forward in 2011- 2012. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Did you know that DBFL is the largest single donor to the Piedmont Educational Foundation? Last year we donated $45,000 to PEF's Foundation Fund, which helped to underwrite grants across all grade levels in the District.

Join one of Piedmont's oldest "GREEN" organizations. Since 1982, we find new owners for unwanted items and prevent adding to the landfills. Did you know high school students can earn Community Service hours by volunteering? DBFL relies on volunteers of all ages to help process gently used items to prepare for resale. We ask for a minimum of 2-4 hours per month to help at the store on Piedmont Ave or at the Marking Room (in the Carriage House behind the Piedmont Recreation Center and across the street from Piedmont High School). Please contact volunteer coordinator Anna at annamodling@.
