Adjectives and Adverbs

Use a resource such as the All Write book or an on-line resource such as college.english/raimes/digitalkeys/.../adject11.htm

or to help you complete this sheet. Be sure to complete both sides.

Adjectives modify (describe or change) nouns.

Adjectives tell what kind, how many, etc. On each line, add an adjective that could be used to describe each noun. The first one has been done for you.

1) a __fast_____ car

2) a(n) ____________ door

3) The dog is _______________.

4) This is a(n) _______________ assignment.

5) Meet me at the _________________ tree.

Adverbs modify (describe or change) verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs.

Adverbs tell how something is done. They can also tell to what extent (very, extremely, barely). In each blank, add an adverb that could be used to describe the verb, adjective, or adverb. Then, on the following line, write whether the word being modified by the adverb is a verb, adjective, or adverb.

1) I ran to her side ___quickly______. ____verb_______

2) The girl was ________________ happy. _______________

3) He pounded ________________ heavily on the door. _______________

4) The cat ________________ stepped around the dog. _______________

5) She answered ___________________. _______________
