Users can create a?personal profile, add other users as?friends, exchange messages, post status updates and photos, and receive notifications when others update their profiles. Additionally, users may join common-interest user groups, organized by workplace, school or college, or other characteristics, and categorize their friends into lists such as "People From Work" or "Close Friends".Instagram- Online mobile photo and video sharing social network that allows users to take, edit, and share photos and videos with other users or embed them to other social networking sites. Over 300 million active monthly users.Linkedin- Business oriented social networking site that allows users (workers and employers) to create profiles and "connections" to each other by invitation. Over 332 million users. Myspace- Popular social networking site in the mid- 2000’s. Allowed users to create custom profiles, add others as friends, exchange messages, and share photos and videos. Declined in popularity in the early 2010’s, except in the gang and music world. Reddit- Entertainment social networking?and?news site where registered community members can submit content, such as text posts or direct links and registered users can then vote submissions "up" or "down" to organize the posts and determine their position on the site's pages. Content entries are organized by areas of interest called "subreddits". Over 114 million unique monthly visitors.Snapchat- Photo messaging application that allows users to take photos, record videos, add text and drawings, and send them (snaps) to a controlled list of recipients for a set a time limit?after which they will be hidden from the recipient's device and deleted from Snapchat's servers. Over 700 million photos and videos are sent per day. Growing 56% a year. Tumblr- Microblogging social network that allows users to post multimedia content to form a blog. Users can follow other blog and chose to make their own public or private. The site features over 197 million blogs. Very popular with 12-25 year olds. Active user base grew 120% in 2014. Twitter- Micro-Blogging social networking site with approximately 1 billion users who can send and read up to-the-second ‘tweets’ of 140 characters or less. 77% of users are located outside of the US. Recently added a video sharing option called Vine. Youtube- Video sharing social networking site that allows users to upload, view, and share videos. Over 1 billion users who view over 4 billion videos a day. AppsAnonymous Apps: Ask.fm, Whisper, Secret- Social networking sites that allows users to confess or ask anonymous questions to other users. Some are location based. ‘Hook-Up’ Apps: Tinder, Grinder, Down, Pure- Allows users to find and search potential sex partners based on location.Messaging Apps: KIK, What’s App- Allows users to message multiple people (group texts) using text, images, voice messages, and videos.
