Course Description: KEEP THIS CONTRACT IN YOUR BINDER ALL SEMESTER.
Welcome to Advanced Functions & Modeling (aka AFM)! This year our big goal is to have 100% of students master at least 80% of our objectives. With hard work, consistent effort, and collaboration this goal is 100% achievable. Now, a great question is what is AFM? We are continuing the development of conceptual understanding & application of functions and modeling.
Parent Assist Messages:
Parents/Guardians can use the CMS Parent Assistant website () to view your child’s academic progress. If you have forgotten your username or password e-mail parentassistant@cms.k12.nc.us or call the Parent Information Line at (980) 343-6192. You should receive a reply within 24 hours (Mon - Fri). Feel free to schedule a parent/teacher conference with your child’s school counselor if you have further questions regarding the Parent Assist website or other concerns.

• Download a FREE TI-83 graphing calculator:

3. Click on “TI-83 Plus SDK”
4. Again, Click on “TI-83 Plus SDK” under “Download Item”
4. Follow all download instructions then restart your computer
5. Click on the new icon that says TI-83 plus flash debugger.
6. Once the application is open, go to File → New → TI-83 Plus → OK → Alt+7 → F5
7. Now all you have to do it use your cursor to press the buttons on the calculator
Classroom Expectations:

b. Use appropriate language: No put downs cursing, or other inappropriate words
c. Respect others’ property. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself

2. Be Prepared: Physically & Mentally
a. Enter the classroom quickly, quietly, and get seated
b. Come prepared to learn with
3. Be Present: Pay Attention, Participate and Ask Questions
a. All technology is to be put away & in no way interrupting learning
b. Use class time to learn MATH. Do not spend your time sleeping, talking, writing notes, texting, instagraming, tweeting or doing work for other classes.
c. Engage in what is going on in the classroom. If you have a question, ask it! There are no stupid questions, and chances are, if you are wondering about it, someone else in the class is to. Be proactive about your learning and don’t be afraid to ask for help. If you feel most comfortable waiting until after class, that is okay, too, but do keep communication open between us.
4. Be Excellent: 100% Effort, 100% of the Time
a. Always do your own best work with integrity
b. Put learning ahead of getting good grades! Put quality ahead of just getting it done!
c. Student actions that interfere with teaching or learning will NOT be tolerated.
d. Being excellent means that all work is authentically your work. Academic integrity includes plagiarism, copying, lying, & cheating. If I notice cheating, the consequence is an automatic zero, referral, & contact home.
5. Be Mindful: At School & Beyond
a. Follow all Vance High School & CMS rules
b. Turn in assignments the day they are due
c. Take responsibility for missing assignments
d. If you are confronted about a rule infraction, own up to it. Don’t deny it, lie about it, or blame someone else. Keep a small problem small!!!

Homework: Not every night, but many nights and sometimes over the weekend.
• Done to the BEST of your ability. You are expected to ATTEMPT EACH QUESTION.
• Checked while completing the Do Now. If not out when I come by then it will be considered late.
• Doing your homework well will make you more successful in class!!!
Late/Make-Up Assignments:
• If work was assigned BEFORE the absence, it is due the day you return.
• If work was assigned DURING the absence, you have a maximum of five days to make it up.
• If you miss an objective check, quiz, or unit assessment, you must make it up AFTER SCHOOL or DURING LUNCH.
• Class time is NOT for make-up work.
Attendance: Regular attendance is mandatory!
• If you are absent, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to make-up work & to get class notes. More than 10 absences will cause a student to receive a grade of a F for the course.
Retesting Policy:
• From the time I hand back the unit assessment, you have a 2 week window, but NOT during class time.
• You may retest ONLY if you scored below a 85% and if you complete full corrections
The 411 About My Classroom:
1. Entering the Class: Students will enter the room quietly, and begin working silently and independently on the Do Now. Students will not be allowed to enter until technology is put away.
2. Instructional Time: There is no movement during instructional time unless given clear permission.
3. Personal Needs: If possible all personal needs must be addressed outside of instructional time. When permitted, students must keep one foot in the classroom while stepping out to take care of any personal needs. Students are not permitted to go use the bathroom unless it is an emergency at any time.
4. Dismissal: Students will not begin to pack up their materials or get up to leave until instructed. Students will be dismissed once all calculators are returned properly and all students are in their seats.
