Although some preparation will be done in class, students are expected to study outside of class for tests and quizzes.Practice (Classwork and Homework): Assignments that are aimed at the practicing of concepts, such as classwork and homework, will be assigned on a daily basis. Classwork should be completed in class and then turned in, along with the homework, on the next day of class. All assignments should be completed neatly in pencil and corrected in class in red ink. The problem solving process is essential for understanding each topic. Thus, work must be shown on all problems; a list of answers in unacceptable.Late Work and Attendance: Late work will not be accepted during class. Students should see Mr. Egan before or after school to discuss late assignments. For excused absences, the previous assignment is due on the day the student returns to class. Work assigned during the absence is due on the next class day after the student’s return to school. Missed tests or quizzes must be made up within two class days upon the student’s return to school.Classroom Expectations: 061595Follow School Rules:Students at Tualatin High School are expected to be respectful, responsible, and safe.Follow Mr. Egan’s Classroom Rules:1. However, giving or receiving assistance and/or answers on individual assignments and exams constitutes cheating and is unacceptable! Students involved in cheating may receive a score of zero on the assignment or exam, in addition to a school referral.TAG Students: An important note about TAG: To ensure that students designated as “Talented as Gifted” (TAG) receive academic instruction that is appropriate for their rate and level of learning, the curriculum and instruction of this course may be differentiated to include specialized groupings, compacting of curriculum, accelerated pacing, and providing of extension / challenge activities (this would be different work of a complementary nature and not extra work on top of existing assignments).Getting Help: There are several avenues for students to obtain help with assignments.Students are encouraged to work with one another outside the classroom. It is beneficial for students to find one or more study partners in the class (or another Algebra 1 class at Tualatin HS) with whom they can work outside of class. Students can also use their study partners as resources during school absences.I am available before and after school for additional help on most days. My availability is posted on the whiteboard in class. If possible, please let me know in advance if you plan to come. If not, stop by anyway to see if I am available. The Holt Textbook provides online resources, including textbook pages, extra practice, and video tutorials.Website: my.; Username: tuhsalgebra; Password: ilovemathHomework Club is offered most Tuesdays after school and Thursdays before school and is held in the library. Students can work individually or in groups on their assignments in any of their classes. Teachers are available to help students, if needed, and snacks are provided. An activity school bus will be available on these days, which leaves the school at 5:00pm.Other Algebra 1 teachers are more than willing to answer your questions! They are Brianna Babcock (Room 167), Justin Humble (Room 46), and Caroline Blackledge (Room 225).Extra Credit: No extra credit will be offered. If you are earning a grade lower than you would like, seek extra help by utilizing one or more of the resources suggested above.Dear Parents and Students,I look forward to the opportunities that we will have in the upcoming months to get to know each other! It is my sincere goal to see that each of my students find a way to be successful at Tualatin High School. I know that the beginning of the school year is very hectic, however I am excited to engage your student in challenging curriculum this year. It is my pleasure and honor to be a part of your student’s life.I would also like to invite you and your student to attend Back To School Night this year. I look forward to meeting parents in this more personal environment, and hope that you will be able to make it! At that time, we will discuss course expectations and grading in more detail.Sincerely,Andrew EganI have read the Algebra 1 Syllabus and agree to the course outline and expectations on the previous pages.__________________________________________________________________________________Parent name(s)Student name__________________________________________________________________________________Parent signatureStudent signature _________________________________________Parent email__________________________________________Parent phone number ................
