Dear Families,

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! My name is Suzanne Wang, and I am very excited to be your child’s Algebra II H teacher this year. I believe that every student is capable of achieving success in math and problem-solving, and I look forward to working with you and your child throughout the semester to ensure that we reach that goal. Below you will find important information about this class. Please read this letter carefully and write any questions you have below your signature on the back of the last page.

|Class Summary/Goals |

Summary: Algebra II H is an important course for your student, both because of its alignment with the ACT as well as its college-level rigor and problem-solving emphasis.

• This course is aimed to help your child master math content that will enable them to be successful on the ACT, and to hone their problem-solving skills to ensure they make a smooth transition from high school to the next step. We will cover advanced algebra topics such as complex numbers, exponential and logarithmic functions, and trigonometry.

• Assessments are a mix of unit content, ACT questions, and performance tasks. Unit tests are worth 200 points, quizzes are worth 100 points, and performance tasks are counted as 100 point unit tests.

• Students will be assigned homework 4 times a week that reinforces the concepts covered and reviews earlier material.

• No extra time on tests or quizzes, unless your child has extended time.

Goals:

1. 85% mastery on all quizzes and tests OR 3% pts of growth from Quarter 3 to Quarter 4

2. 2 pts growth on ACT benchmark OR

|Requisite Supplies |

← 1 2 in. 3-ring binder. Students will add to their binders every day, so it is imperative that all students have a binder dedicated to this class.

← 4 dividers. Either 1 purchased pack of 5 dividers or 4 sheets of different colored hole-punched construction paper. Students will need to differentiate between sections (Class Notes, Exit Tickets, Homework, and Quizzes/Tests).

← 1 pack of lined paper.

← 1 pack of pencils. Students will be required to use pencils on notes and work—no pens will be accepted unless students are correcting work.

← 1 scientific calculator: TI-30X IIS, $8.88 at Wal-Mart. (See PAGE 4 for description, under syllabus.)
