Course Description and Content: Geometry with Reasoning teaches basic geometric concepts as well as logic and reasoning skills through the use of deductive and inductive reasoning. The content of this course includes, but is not limited to the following: deductive/ inductive reasoning, lines, and angles, basic postulates and theorems, congruent triangles, transformations, inequalities, parallel lines, coordinate geometry, quadrilaterals, area, similarity, right triangles, circles, regular polygons, and geometric solids.

Honors Geometry is a honors level course designed for students who consistently exceed the objectives and expectations of the essential curriculum, both in terms of content knowledge and application. Coursework includes an emphasis on abstract material and requires extensive independent work, self-discipline, and commitment to meet rigorous expectations and timelines. Successful completion of Honors coursework will prepare students for post-high school education.

Career Pathways: This course meets the Geometry requirement for all six Career Pathways. Some careers of interest may be architecture, pilot, interior design, or drafting.

Core Learning Goals : The following Core Learning Goals are covered in Geometry: The student will demonstrate the ability to solve mathematical and real world problems using measurements and geometric models and will justify solutions and explain processes used and The student will demonstrate the ability to apply appropriate methods for representing and interpreting data and communicating results, using technology when needed.

Behavioral Expectations:

1) Be in your seat with all required materials when the bell rings.

2) Attempt all work. (Completing all work is expected.)

3) Promote a positive classroom atmosphere. Any behaviors that impede

effective instruction will not be tolerated. This includes talking during

instruction, when others are talking, and during quizzes or tests.

4) Follow all directions the first time they are given.

5) Follow all school rules.

Consequences:

1. Warning

2. Detention (parent contact)

3. Office referral

A pattern of offenses will result in a greater progression of consequences.

Grading: The grade for the term will be determined as follows:

Tests 50% Quizzes 35% Assignments 15%

The grade for the semester will be determined as follows:

1st term 40% 2nd term 40% Final exam 20%

Grade Progress: Grades will be updated periodically and after each unit test. Please check for

progress on Pinnacle. Students are encouraged to seek extra help in class and

outside of class whenever necessary. I am available for questions most days after

school until 2:50, except when mandatory meetings are scheduled. Parents can

contact me by either phone or email using the information on the front whenever

any questions or concerns arise.

Attendance Policy: Students are expected to be in class, on time everyday. If an absence is

coded unexcused, all work completed that day will receive a grade of 0%,

including quizzes and tests. Please remember to have notes written to excuse

your absences and to show the admit slip to the teacher.

Make-up Policy: Students will be held responsible for everything that is assigned when they

are absent. The students should check with me the next day back for any missing

work. After five days all missing assignments, including quizzes and tests,

receive a grade of 0%. Test and quizzes may only be made up after school or

during your assigned lunch shift. is the companion website for our 2004 textbook version and may provide student help when working from home.

Bathroom Breaks: Students will be allowed one bathroom pass per grading term. Please use

it wisely. No planner, no ID, no pass.

Calculator Misuse: At NO TIME will students be allowed to share calculators or other

materials when taking a quiz or test. Game playing on the graphing calculators

will not be tolerated. First offense will result in the clearing of the memory and a

phone call home. Second offense may result in the loss of graphing calculator.

BE SMART!

Cell Phones: Any student suspected or caught using text messaging during class time,

especially during a quiz or test, will automatically receive a zero for the

assignment. The phone will be taken and given to the appropriate administrator.

Please keep one syllabus for your records. Sign and return the other to Mrs. Meehan.

I am looking forward to a very successful semester for your child. You are welcome in the classroom anytime !!
