Welcome To

Keller Communicators

WELCOME GUESTS

We are pleased to have you as a guest of the Keller Communicators Toastmasters club and we sincerely hope that you enjoy the meeting. We have a prepared program for each meeting, which includes:

CALL TO ORDER: The President, or another elected club officer, will call the meeting to order and lead or pledge of allegiance to the flag. The Presiding Officer will then introduce our visitors and our Toastmaster for the day.

The following assignments are carried out by club members, based on a regular rotation roster: Toastmaster, Speaker(s), Timer, Vote Counter, Grammarian, Ah Counter, Table-Topics Master, Speaker, General Evaluator, Listener, and Speech Evaluator(s).

The TOASTMASTER coordinates, presents, and presides over the prepared program. The Toastmaster will present a few minutes of introductory remarks usually tied to our meeting theme. After that, the Toastmaster will call on various meeting participants to describe their duties.

Each SPEAKER presents a prepared speech of about five to seven (5-7) minutes on a subject of his/her choice within guidelines set by Toastmasters International. Each speaker has a speech training manual “COMMUNICATION AND LEADERSHIP PROGRAM”, from which he/she is to exercise a new facet of public speaking in each speech. After a timer’s report, if we have more than one speaker, we may vote for the Best Speaker. You are invited and encouraged to vote. The ballot is a tear-off slip on the ballot sheet in front of you.

The TABLE-TOPICS MASTER has selected either one or several topics of interest, usually tying into a theme pre-selected by the Toastmaster. Members will be called upon without advance notice to speak for one to two (1-2) minutes on the subject chosen by the Table-Topics Master. This is our method of developing impromptu speaking skills. After a timer’s report, we will vote for the Best Table Topics speaker. You are invited and encouraged to vote.

The GENERAL EVALUATOR (GE) evaluates the operation and conduct of the program. This evaluation session is the key to our education system. The GE will ask for an evaluation of each prepared speaker by his/her evaluator. This provides each speaker with immediate feedback including constructive suggestions for improvement. Sometimes instead of having individual evaluators, we do “round robin” evaluations, which means we go around the table and everyone provides feedback to the speakers. The GRAMMARIAN reports on word usage and use of the word of the day. After a timer’s report we will vote for Best Evaluator. Again, you are invited to vote. Following that, the AH COUNTER reports on our use of filler words like “ah”, “um”, and “you know”. Next, our LISTENER will ask the group questions to test how well we all paid attention during the meeting. Finally GE will present their feedback on the conduct of the entire meeting.

We may present awards to the Best Table Topics speaker, Best Speaker, and Best Evaluator. After the awards, you as our guest may be given the opportunity to share a few words. YOUR PARTICIPATION IS OPTIONAL. We welcome any insight that you may be able to offer.

We hope you will see the possibility of self-improvement and give serious consideration to sharing your experience with us as a member of Keller Communicators. If you are interested in joining, please contact one of our members after the meeting.
