Creating a Literature Soundtrack for Fahrenheit 451

Creating a Literature Soundtrack for Fahrenheit 451

This will be worth 100 points and is due:

Congratulations! You have just become a music director for the movie version of Fahrenheit 451. Your job is to create a playlist of the music you will use in the film and to create the cover art, along with an explanation of your choices.

To complete this project, you must:

1. Find a song for each of the 5 most important plot points in the book.

Total of 5 songs.

2. Find a song that characterizes each of the following:

a. Guy Montag

b. Clarisse McClellan

c. Mildred Montag

d. Captain Beatty

e. Professor Faber

f. One other character of your choice

3. Find a song that exemplifies the following literary elements.

a. Setting

b. Conflict

c. Theme as it relates to your theme choice

d. Resolution

That’s a total of 15 different songs for your project.

4. Complete the attached explanation chart. This should be neatly handwritten in pen or typed (you can find this assignment posted on my website). Be sure to explain how the lyrics make this the best song for the section you’ve chosen. Make a direct connection between the lyrics (not just the title) and how they specifically relate to the story.

5. Create a cover, with original art that relates to the book, and a song & artist list inside front flap. Your songs must be in an order that matches the explanation chart. Please put your name and class period at the top right side of the cover. The song & artist list can be typed, but the art must be original.

6. In a professional and eloquent presentation, convince the producers (the rest of the class) that this is the appropriate soundtrack they should purchase for the film. This is a sales pitch. The presentation should be no more than 3 minutes long. You will play snippets of 3 songs- you will choose from what categories. For full credit, be dressed up – this is a business, you know.

Please note: I do not want you to have to spend money downloading songs.
