Victoria Evola JNM 320 Professor Phillips 12 March 2019 You Have Never Seen Anything Like ItThe Lifetime show You has made it to Netflix and it has everyone watching their backs. Penn Badgley plays this normal guy Joe Goldberg who works at a book store. But Joe has a secret just as everyone else in this show does. Joe is a skilled stalker of his lover Guinevere Beck keeping the audience on their toes. As the show gets deeper and deeper into the season it starts to gradually reveal just how insane Joe really is. You shows the insanity of infatuation and the things love can drive someone to do, even without them seeing. Joe looks like a normal harmless guy on the outside, but he is capable of stuff he himself didn’t think was ever possible. He is infatuated with Beck and will do whatever it takes to get rid of the things in her life that he believes are “harming” her. Talking all calm cool and collected but that can switch in a heartbeat. You watch Joe go from sweet and innocent to immediately flipping a switch and talking all crazy and insane. His personality goes with the plot of the show and how everything can be fine one minute and then go spiraling out of control the next episode. He is a stalker who learns from his own mistakes and gets better as the show goes on at hiding his tracks. “I am not a maybe, I am the One,” Joe always thought he and Beck were meant for each other and did whatever he could to prove it. Everything Beck does he sees as a code towards him so it should only be him and Beck left in the world. The show is filled with suspense of what is going to happen and shows the insanity of Joe’s undying love for Beck and how that can make someone go insane. “Hello. Who are you? All your accounts are public, you want them to see you, to listen to you. And I thank you.” Joe found out everything about her and knew she wanted the attention he gave her or at least that is what he assumed. This show will have you hooked on every thought Joe has and how creepy and deep his mind can go. With the protagonist being the bad guy in this show it truly shows the audience a whole new perspective. You really get an inside view on what the killer is thinking. It is hard to pick a character to root for in this show but as you see Joe go more insane you find yourself screaming at the screen telling everyone he comes in contact with to run away. “There are terrifying people in this world. It’s important to stay safe and that’s why I have to do what I am going to do.” Joe justified everything cruel he did and that was the insane part. As the show goes on the more insane Joe’s actions get and the more Beck is oblivious to it all. Spending time with terrible people is not usually a great argument for a TV series, but it’s crucial to making? You?bearable. Everything spins on the show’s ability to negotiate between the things that are bad and serious and the things that are bad and funny, and it’s quite good at differentiating between the two. It’s also worth noting that? You?is as good as any show at depicting social media as completely integrated into daily life. Social Media runs this show and truly shows the dangers of what it can do to someone. If you are looking for a binge worthy show You is the answer to your prayers. And watch your backs because the second season is set to release soon. ................
