Central Michigan UniversityCentralis Scholarship Alternate Criteria Nomination FormThis form and principal’s nomination letter are due to the CMU Admissions Office postmarked by January 15, 2021To be eligible for the Centralis Scholarship Competition students must have a minimum high school GPA of 3.7 and a 1260 SAT score or 27 ACT score. The Honors Program recognizes that multiple factors outside of the control of prospective students, including lack of standardized testing opportunity, may negatively impact the traditional indicators of educational achievement and academic engagement. In these circumstances, high school principals can nominate eligible students from their school using this alternate competition criteria nomination form.There are two ways a student can apply for eligibility to receive alternate competition criteria: Falling just short of either the minimum required GPA or SAT/ACT score, but not both:By January 15, student must have earned either: ?at least a 3.5 HS GPA and a 1260 SAT or 27 ACT, OR?at least a 3.7 GPA and a 1200 SAT or 25 ACTORStudent has the minimum required 3.7 high school cumulative GPA but was unable to take the SAT/ACT prior to January 2021 for the following reason(s)*: ?Student’s high school did not offer a fall 2020 SAT/ACT test?No SAT/ACT testing center near student’s hometown ?Other: Student was not able to take the SAT/ACT prior to January 2021 for the following reason:____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________*IMPORTANT: Students opting to not take the SAT/ACT test offered by their high school prior to January 1, 2021, are not eligible to apply for alternate criteria. This option is only available to students whose high school, due to Covid-19, was unable to offer an SAT/ACT test option prior to January 1, 2021, and did not have an alternate test site nearby.For either of the above cases, the high school principal, or designee, must write a nomination letter indicating BOTH of the following:Evidence student has overcome obstacles, challenges, or barriers that have negatively impacted the student’s ability to meet the minimum criteria. Note: Letter must provide specific examples of any obstacles, challenges and barriers in order for student to be eligible to compete under alternate criteria. School not offering SAT/ACT can be included as an obstacle.B.Evidence student has strong academic potential and is a top student compared to high school peers. Supporting data can include, but is not be limited to: high school class rank, past PSAT scores, evidence of success in Honors/Advanced/IB/AP curriculum, dual-enrollment, etc. Nominators of students unable to take the SAT/ACT prior to January 2021 should have reasonable confidence student would have performed at or above the Centralis minimum SAT/ACT score had the student taken the test.?Alternate Criteria Timeline:Student submits a complete application for CMU admission by December 1, 2020 (application, transcript, SAT/ACT score, fees)Student submits their Centralis Scholarship Application found at cmich.edu/honors no later than January 1, 2021. High school principal, or designee, submits this form and nomination letter to the CMU Admissions Office postmarked by January 15, 2021.? Student’s application becomes active for review upon receipt of principal’s letter and this form verifying 1) student’s high school GPA, 2) student’s standardized test score (or rationale for having no test score), 3) evidence of student obstacles, challenge and barriers, and 4) evidence of strong academic potential.
