PERSONAL INTERESTS

I have many interests. I really enjoy writing, mainly poems and short stories. I recently won first place in Ilkley Literature Festival creative writing competition. I also enjoy art and photography.

I have, over the past few years, developed a keen interest in food and drink which is why I am looking to gain some experience working in a catering or beverage related job. I spend a lot of my spare time searching out new recipes to try and sampling what the bars and restaurants of Liverpool have to offer.

An experience which has helped me develop greatly is an in Turkey excavation I participated in over the summer. As a student of archaeology I was lucky enough to be able to work on a very important Prehistoric archaeological site for over a month. Here I was working under the supervision of a team of archaeologists in a rural Turkish village. This was an incredible but also extremely challenging experience. Not only were we working full days in the heat (as high as 38 degrees Celsius one day), we were also living together in communal dormitories with the nearest town an hour away and little ability to communicate with home (no internet). This experience taught me a lot about how to get on with other people in stressful situations and how to get by in a society so different from my own – with no English speakers in the village we had to learn basic Turkish just to get by. Also how to be determined and keep smiling even when faced with something I felt out of my comfort zone with.

I enjoy keeping myself busy and always seek to make the most out of life.
