There is lots of room for creativity when producing TV or YouTube recordings. Providing a hard scripted template is not helpful in these cases. As you work with Marketing or a Video –maker, a storyboard or script will likely be produced for your approval. This storyboard or script is what should be submitted to the IRB

The following is provided as guideline information for what to include and what not to include in your script for the recorded ad:

INCLUDE:

• The words “UVA Health System” The words “UVa Health System” do not have to be in the spoken text of the ad so long as they are in the logo)

• Name of the condition to be studied

• Purpose of the study. Make sure it is clear that you are recruiting for RESEARCH and not offering treatment or care.

• Basic overview of study procedures is nice but optional.

• Compensation may be mentioned but should not be stressed

• Contact information

• IRB Number

DO NOT INCLUDE:

• Wording that confuses research with treatment

• Promises of better health, relief, treatment etc.

PLEASE BE SURE TO WORK WITH UVA MARKETING FOR THESE SORTS OF ADS UNLESS YOUR SPONSOR PRODUCES THESE.

If the sponsor has produced the ad, please submit the recorded information to the IRB for approval. Marketing approval will not be needed unless UVa is specifically mentioned or UVa contact information is included. In this case the requirement for IRB number is waived.
