HOW TO APPLY FOR A JOB AT THE CARICOM SECRETARIAT

Welcome to our job application portal and thank you for your interest in the CARICOM Secretariat. Below you will find detailed instructions on how to apply for an existing vacant position. Only nationals of a CARICOM Member State are considered for employment at the CARICOM Secretariat.

1. Searching for job openings Available vacancies at the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat are advertised in regional newspapers throughout the various Member States, namely Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago. Additionally, job advertisements are placed in the Associate Member States of Anguilla, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, and the Turks and Caicos Islands. Details of the job openings are listed under the JOBS tab on the Home Page ( See Image 1 below). There are three countries, namely Guyana, Barbados and Jamaica where jobs openings are available.

Image 1 2. Creating a profile and submitting an application

A job application at the CARICOM Secretariat is made up of (1) a profile section (My Profile), and (2) an application form that includes an area for your cover letter. Both the profile and the application form are completed online in the job application Portal. After you have completed the on-line application, please make sure to click the Save button after each section before exiting the page. You must first register in the job portal before you can create your profile. (click here to register). Click on the APPLY button on the top menu to start creating your profile. (See Image 2 below)

After you have registered you will be welcomed to your Profile Home page. You can now manage your profile and fill in your relevant job data for the position to which you are applying. Firstly, you should create a user profile (My Profile). The information in My Profile includes your Bio Data, Residency Information, Educational Details and Work Experience. You can make changes to My Profile at any time.

After you have registered and completed the My Profile section, you can proceed to apply for vacant positions listed in the job portal. Once you have identified a vacant job of interest, click on the Apply Now icon.

Once you have done that, the details page for the job will load. It is recommended that you review your application details, edit your cover letter and answer any Job Questions that may be required under the Job Questions Tab.

Depending on the job you are applying for, you may or may not be required to answer some job questions. The format of the questions may require response such as yes or no, true or false, and multiple choice. Your responses will be used in the evaluation and assessment of your candidature.

Once you would have completed updating the three tabs (Application Details, Cover Letter and Job Questions) you will need to scroll to the bottom of the page and click the ADD button to submit your application.

It is of the utmost importance that you accurately complete and update all the information as it serves as a basis for evaluating your eligibility and suitability for the vacant job opening.

3. Evaluation of the application

Your experience, education and skills will be assessed in relation to the job specification of the vacant position. Once there is an alignment between both, you will be contacted to participate in the various phases of the recruitment and selection process. Some elements of the recruitment and selection may include work sample tests, psychometric assessments, face-to-face interviews and other applicable employment tests.

If it is determined that your experience, education and skills are not fully aligned to the job specification, you will be notified. You should not be deterred by an unsuccessful outcome but keep applying for other jobs for which you feel you possess the competencies to fill the role successfully.

4. Candidate Assessment

The assessment exercises might include work sample tests, delivering presentations, basic skills test, psychometric assessments, General Mental Ability or any other instrument deemed appropriate for the particular job post. These assessment exercises are conducted in strict confidence and you will be informed in advance, of the time, type and length of the assessment. Additionally, you will be notified of the result of the assessment, and apprised of the next steps.

5. Behavioural and Competency-based interview

The interview can take place off-site via video conference or in person. You will be notified in advance of the time, duration and means and/or place of the interview. The interview allows for assessing the depth and breadth of your competencies relevant to the job specifications of the role for which you applied. Additionally, it provides you with the opportunity to get a better understanding of the CARICOM Secretariat. The interview provides a two-way communication process.

6. Selection Notification

After an assessment is conducted by the Interviewing Panel on all the stages of recruitment and selection process, you will be notified of the outcome within three to four weeks afterward.

NOTE: Reference Checks Appointment at the CARICOM Secretariat is subject to satisfactory and complete verification of academic qualifications and employment history as well as medical clearance by a recommended Physician. If you are a candidate under closer consideration, reference checks will be conducted and you will be notified accordingly.

Regarding academic qualifications, only applicants with academic qualifications from accredited (officially recognized) universities or institutions are considered eligible. The accreditation status of an educational institution is verified through this reference check procedure. As for the employment verification, if you had indicated in your application that you have objections to contacting your current employer, this employer is not contacted until you have actually been selected for and you have confirmed your interest in a position.
