Philadelphia’s Office of Mental Health (OMH) provides mental health services for more than 40,000 adults and children requiring medical, social, and educational services. The office provides these services through an extensive network of contracted provider agencies located throughout Philadelphia.  Network of services:

• 11 community mental health centers

• More than 30 specialized health agencies

• 4 crisis response centers

• 30 in-patient provider agencies

The Department of Mental Health / Developmental Programs is responsible for the administration of services to Bucks County residents who have mental illness, intellectual disability, or developmental delay/disability, and their families.

Mental health services include: Crisis Services, Outpatient Therapy, Partial Hospitalization, Community Treatment Teams, Administrative Case Management, Intensive Case Management and Resource Coordination. Housing services include Adult Respite, Intensive, Maximum and Moderate Community Residential Rehabilitation (CRR), and Supported Living. Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services include Clubhouse, Psycho-Social Programs and Consumer Run Drop-In Centers. Vocational and employment services are also available. Children's services include Outpatient Therapy, Partial Hospitalization, Intensive Case Management, Family-Based Mental Health Services, School-Based Services, Student Assistance Program, and the L.I.F.E. Program, which provides parent advocacy, education and information and referral services.

Developmental programs include: Case Management/Service Coordination, Family Driven Support Services, Information and Referral and Consultation and Education. Residential Services include: Home Based, Family Living, Supported Living and Community Living Arrangements (CLA). The program also administers Vocational Services, Competitive Employment, Vocational Rehabilitation and Adult Training.

William Way LGBT Community Center: 215-732-8255 Nonprofit offers short-term, anonymous peer counseling for LGBTQ+ related issues. Free sessions with peer counselors supervised by a psychiatrist.

LGBTQ+ Counseling at Emerge Wellness- 215-603-7336 Center City practice committed to holistic health and wellness. The practice offers therapy services to LGBT individuals in a “comfortable environment.”Sliding scale based on income.

Drexel Psychological Services Center: 215-553-7128-Run by the Department of Psychology at Drexel University and staffed by clinical psychology doctoral students who are supervised by licensed professionals. Fees for therapy are determined on a sliding scale based on income and can be reduced if an individual has dependents.

The Center for Growth: 215-922-5683- Outpatient counseling center with locations in Fairmount and Society Hill. The center offers individual therapy on a sliding scale.

Professional Psychological Services 215-545-7895 ext 2. Professional psychological services has a team of licensed counselors, psychologists and social workers. Some practitioners offer free services for people who are connected to the military, including veterans, active service members and widows. Sliding scale available.

The Family Practice and Counseling Network- The network provides primary care, behavioral health, dental and other additional services. Open Path Psychotherapy Collective- This nationwide network of mental health professionals provides in-office mental health care. Sliding scale available. Open Path’s website provides a list of local therapists.

Philadelphia Institute for Individual, Relational & Sex Therapy- 267-519-0241 Group a therapists who are sex-positive and gender-affirming. Sliding scale available.

Online Mental Health Therapy and Support

• Centre for Interactive Mental Health Solutions (CIMHS) offers an initial, free eight-session interactive therapy program for those living with depression. 

• 7 Cups provides free emotional support through trained peer-listeners and chat groups. Online professional therapists are also available at cost.  

• BetterHelp and TalkSpace offers individual, family, and child virtual therapy at a lower cost than conventional in-person therapy. Therapists can be accessed via texting, email, phone, or video chat.

 

• PsychCentral's "Ask the Therapist" page allows users to pose a mental health-related question to a public virtual therapist page for response.

Online Support Groups 

• Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA) offers an anonymous peer-to-peer online and in-person anxiety and depression support groups for individuals and their families to share information and experiences.

• BPD Central is a website that contains information on Borderline Personality Disorder, including help to find online BPD support groups.

• Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) provides online and in-person, peer-led support groups for people living with depression and bipolar disorder. DBSA support groups serve peers, young adults, and friends and family members. 

 

• Ivory Garden is an organization that provides online support groups where those who have experienced trauma can talk openly.

• Open to Hope (Grief) offers an online support forum where individuals share their stories and connect to others coping with grief and loss.

• Mental Health America maintains a free, online mental health group and discussion community.  Discussion topics include mental health concerns, support for family and friends, and coping with mental health stigma.

• Schizophrenia & Related Disorders Alliance of America (SARDAA) offers conference call groups for individuals and family & friends.

• Support Group Central offers dozens of virtual support groups on various mental health topics. Groups are typically run by mental health professionals from non-profit agencies. Group dates/times vary and free or low-cost. 

 

• Smart Recovery provides free, peer-led support and chat groups. Conversations are moderated to prevent discrimination or aggression.
