Volunteers of America Northern New England is a nonprofit social service agency committed to providing quality human services in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. Volunteers of America transforms lives - for those who give, as well as for those who receive. Our goals are to involve others in serving their communities and to make a positive and lasting contribution to the quality of life for people.

Community Corrections and Transitional Services:

Women’s Reentry Center: Cynthia Reid: Cynthia.Reid@

Located in Bangor is a 36-reentry bed center that focuses on release planning for the treatment and care of adult female offenders incarcerated at the Maine Correctional Center in Windham.

Maine Coastal Regional Reentry Center: Michael Tausek: Michael.Tausek@

Located in Belfast is a facility for male inmates who will be transitioning into the community within 18 months to Sagadahoc, Lincoln, Waldo, Knox and Hancock counties.

Mental Health Services: Anita Brown: Anita.brown@

Specialized Residential Treatment Facilities: Trained and caring staff members at each residence help residents learn to cope with the challenges of everyday living by developing daily living skills, participating in counseling, becoming educated in mental illness, improving, and learning how to manage symptoms with an individual rehabilitation and treatment plan.

Beach Street House in Saco, Maine is a 6-bed group home for men diagnosed with mental illness.

Brackett Street House: Julie Powers: Julie.powers@

in Portland, a 6 bed home, works with Divert Offenders to Treatment, an innovative program that to divert adults with serious and persistent mental illness from the Cumberland County Jail.

Sawyer Street House in South Portland is a 6-bed group home for women diagnosed with mental illness who need a supportive housing/living environment.

Intensive Residential Treatment and Housing is a program for men or women diagnosed with a mental illness that need intensive residential housing and treatment. This program has apartments in Biddeford and South Portland.

Senior Support Services: Personal Care services for seniors living independently.

Affordable Senior Housing: Low-income housing for seniors, who may have disabilities or other needs and need a safe and nurturing housing environment. The focus is on sustaining the value of life with caring people nearby to help when seniors need help.

Fay Garman House on Peaks Island provides12-units

Rocky Coast House in Thomaston provides 31-units

Westrum House in Topsham provides 28-units

Miller Square on Harlow in Bangor

Located in Biddeford and Saco providing housing for Homeless men and women veterans - first of its kind in Maine, it is a combined transitional housing and employment program designed to provide safe supportive housing.

Mediation Services: Nancy Markowitz: nancy.markowitz@

The program provides mediation, facilitation and conflict resolution training for senior housing, corrections, neighbors, families, communities and the agricultural community. Mediation is convenient, affordable, voluntary and confidential process that encourages open dialogue, understanding and resolution. Mediators are volunteer community members, trained to facilitate discussion and help structure the mediation process. Mediation training is offered throughout the year.
