Controller and Director – Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A)

JOB SUMMARY

The Controller/Director – FP&A is a “hands-on manager” position responsible for monitoring and maintaining all aspects of the Hatteras Yachts financial structure and infrastructure, including the management of a staff of 4/5, financial accounting and reporting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (“GAAP”), oversight responsibility for all job costing and analyses, including budgets and profitability by vessel, and the maintenance of all financial, sales and operational metrics.

This is a senior management position with a seat on the Hatteras Leadership Team. The individual will serve as the company's focal point for all accounting and financial reporting, including manufacturing accounting, i.e., cost accounting and profitability by vessel, as well as all quoting, and matters affecting all financial aspects and economics of the business. Anticipating and leading with a proactive approach, including a presence on the manufacturing floor in support of all manufacturing operations, will be critical to one’s success.

Further, this individual will need to evidence the ability to effectively problem-solve through conceptual design, speed and flexibility, with conceptualization being most critical. Strong troubleshooting skills are imperative. Candidate must have strong project management and follow-up skills to ensure all projects are actively managed and completed in a timely fashion.

This individual, along with the CFO, will work directly with the 3rd-party lender and external insurance/risk broker for this private-equity owned and leveraged organization.

The company’s primary business platform is the Epicor 10 ERP system. Strong experience and proficiency with ERP systems and systems administration is desired.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage a team of four to five professionals, including an Accounting Manager, FP&A/Pricing Analyst, Cost Accountant and Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable Specialist/Analyst

Manufacturing floor presence in support of VP Manufacturing and manufacturing operations, leading the development of budgets, by vessel, while monitoring and analyzing variances to those budgets, with ongoing/real-time profitability projections through the respective builds

Lead and manage the month-end close, including the preparation of select, and the review of all, journal entries

Lead and manage the preparation of external/internal month-end financial statements to be submitted to the private equity owner and 3rd-party lender

Oversee the preparation of the monthly SG&A actual vs. budget fluctuation analyses, including actual to budget and actual to prior year actual, month on month and YTD fluctuation analyses, including fluctuation explanations, and the development and inclusion of ad-hoc reports, as necessary

Support all functional leaders, with an emphasis on manufacturing operations, via FP&A efforts, with guidance from CFO and operations management

Ensure the accurate preparation and accounting for all payroll-associated journal entries and reconciliations

Manage, maintain and monitor, as appropriate, all Finance, Sales and Operating metrics calculations, compilations and reporting

Oversee daily reporting of all bank transactions; review and sign-off of monthly bank reconciliations

Prepare, in conjunction with accounting staff, and provide weekly cash requirements to CFO

Work closely with CFO on cash flow forecasting and specifically-identified modeling efforts and sensitivity analyses

Oversee fixed asset ledger, including depreciation, and manage the annual capital expenditure budget and spend, including the administration process specific to requisitions, return on investment calculations and approvals

Work closely with CFO on annual property and casualty insurance renewal

Lead the annual physical inventory efforts, as well as all associated reconciliations

Serve as the lead and primary contact for the annual external financial audit and tax preparation process

Act as a mentor to the entire Accounting team, including driving a collaborative effort specific to each individual’s professional development and performance

Perform other accounting and financial duties as required and assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of BS degree in Accounting (although degree in Finance may be considered)

• Several years of experience as a Controller in a heavy manufacturing environment

• Demonstrated manufacturing floor presence in support of manufacturing operations

• Demonstrated experience with ERP systems required; Epicor experience a plus

• Several years of experience with financial analyses, preferably previous experience as a FP&A analyst and/or 2 years of public accounting, most preferably Big Four

• GAAP experience, at a professional level

• Must be self-directed, a self-starter

• CPA and/or MBA required

• Motivated and aspires to advance personal and professional development

Competencies

• Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel, Access, Power Point, and Word, with a special emphasis on Microsoft Excel

• Proficiency with ERP systems

• Strong ability to analyze large amounts of data and provide insight to employees outside of Accounting/Finance
