Design Your Own Map

Now, it’s your turn! Create an imaginary continent, and label it with unusual (and school-appropriate) names.

On the back of this paper, create an imaginary continent. You can use a real item (such as a foot) as your model, or it can be totally imaginary. Then, select twelve features, six on water and six on land that you will name and label.

The name of your continent is _________________________________________

Six land forms are named:

Three land forms are your choice.

One land form must be either a mountain range or a canyon.

One land form must be either a peninsula or an isthmus.

One land form must be either an island near the continent or a valley.

Six bodies of water items are named:

Three bodies of water are your choice.

One body of water must be either an ocean or a sea.

One body of water must be either a bay or a gulf.

One body of water must be a river with a delta or strait between a continent and an island.

On the back, draw a first draft of your continent. Do not use color for this draft!

Show 12 important land and water forms, and label them with numbers. Write the name of the land or water form next to the number on the list at the bottom of the page. When you are done, bring this draft to Mr. Dalton for approval before you begin your full-color, graded drawing.

A Numbered Map of ___________________________________

Write the names of your landforms or bodies of water below
