Business Mathematics (POFT 1321)

Course

Credits Students who successfully complete this course will receive three hours college credit.

Prerequisites None

Course Goals 1. Review of the fundamentals of Mathematics.

2. Provide students with a good basis for elementary accounting

concepts, business machines, and computer technology.

Supplies You will need a pocket calculator, #2 pencil, and about five Scantron forms.

Class

Attendance Attendance is necessary for a student to achieve the objectives in this class. Therefore, students are expected to attend classes on a regular basis, and expected to be punctual.

Students are responsible for all work, assignments, and material discussed in class, whether the student is present or absent. Attending class does not guarantee that the student will pass the course. If the overall grade average is below 60, then the student will receive an “F” even if the student did not miss any classes.

Pertinent College Withdrawal

Policies The last day to withdraw (W-Day) from a course is April 19, 2013. It is your responsibility to drop or withdraw from a course if you feel you cannot pass the course or do the assignments. You must complete the forms in the Registrar’s Office.

Children on Campus

The student handbook states: “Children will not be allowed on campus while parents are attending classes or visiting without permission from the Dean of Student Development.”

Academic Dishonesty

The WCJC catalog states: “Plagiarism and cheating refer to the use of unauthorized books, notes, or otherwise securing help in a test; copying tests, assignments, reports, or term papers....Misconduct may result in the student being placed on disciplinary probation or suspension (dismissal)”.

Evaluation

Exams There will be about four tests that are worth 30% of your final grade. The final exam will cover Chapters 1-12 and will be worth 20% of your final grade.

Make-up Exams Make up exams will be given the week of April 29. You are responsible for telling your teacher which tests you need and taking the make-up on the scheduled date. There is no make-up for the final exam. If you miss the final exam, you will receive a “0” for it since WCJC does not give an “I” (incomplete) unless it is approved by the Vice President of Academic Affairs. If you have extenuating circumstances, please contact your instructor.

Homework Homework is due on the assigned date (no exceptions). Most homework assignments will be done online at the publisher’s
