Office 365 Wave 15 FAQSummaryWave 15 upgrades web applications from an Office 2010 level to a 2013 level. Our current license only includes the Outlook Web App.This transition involves changes to the look-and-feel of Office 365 web applications. Wave 14 web mail is on the left, while wave 15 is on the right:Wave 15 also adds a splash screen between login and display of the web mail interface. The New Web Mail PageThe top-right corner now contains links for the Outlook email page, the Calendar screen, and a People Pane (Contacts). The … menu currently contains a link to . The account pull-down menu is pretty straightforward, as are the cog (options screens) and question mark pull-downs.Tasks is still down in the lower-left corner.Pre-existing Mail ProfilesEmail devices and client programs should not be affected by this upgrade. If it was working with Wave 14, it should continue working with Wave 15. Email Device and Client Settings (Auto-Discovery)For new client setups, Wave 15 requires auto-discovery. Enter the email address and password. The rest of the configuration information will be automatically downloaded from Office 365. This applies to most smart phones and tablets, as well as these email programs:Windows: Outlook 2007 or Outlook 2010Mac: Mac Mail or Outlook 2011 for MacAuto-discovery functionality for Office 365 relies on DNS entries in the form autodiscover.mail.umkc.edu. This is a CNAME record pointing to autodiscover..IMAP/POP/SMTP Settings (Limited Audience)Users with (very) old smart phones, or users who have Outlook 2003 clients will need to use IMAP or POP3 to receive mail, and SMTP to send mail. Those settings can be found in the Help link under the question mark pull-down menu. However, we will list the servers here for convenience:IMAP or POP3 server:outlook.SMTP server:smtp. These are the server names preferred by Microsoft. However tests indicate the old IMAP/POP/SMTP server names still work. There are no warnings or known issues in the documentation regarding the old server names. Ancient clients configured with IMAP/POP/SMTP prior to Wave 15 are expected to keep on working.Thunderbird clients try to perform something like auto-discovery, but it doesn’t work. “Imap-mail.” and “smtp-mail.” seemed to accept a user ID and password, but did not download any mail or allow subscription to any folders. Please note that Outlook 2003 goes out of support on April 8, 2014.Wave 15 DocumentationGuide to the Office 365 Service Upgrade for 2013 - section of that document concerned with post-upgrade problems - issues Wiki - email connection problems - Updates Required and RecommendedMost students use the Outlook Web App. Internet Explorer 9 (Windows Vista) or Internet Explorer 10 (Windows 7) are recommended.
