Course Description:

Prerequisite: Algebra 1 or Algebra 2 Honors Description: This course expands upon the topics presented in the regular geometry course, further emphasizing the structure of Euclidean geometry and the use of proof as a problem-solving technique. Additional topics to be covered include solid geometry, coordinate geometry, and introductory right triangle trigonometry. Instruction in this course is designed for college-bound students who are interested in mathematics-related or science-related fields of study. This course carries a weighted grade. Scientific calculator required (TI graphing calculator preferred).

Expectations:

▪ Attend class on a daily basis.

▪ All electronic devices are to be off and stored away not to be touched during class

▪ Keep a class notebook of notes, model problems, and homework assignments with noted corrections.

▪ Read the assigned textbook readings.

▪ Participate in class, group discussions, and problem solving activities.

▪ Schedule make-up deadlines with the individual teacher when an absence occurs.

▪ Failure to do so may result in our school’s minor/major incident reports

Materials Needed in class each day:

▪ Textbook and notebook/folder

▪ Pencils with erasers, pen for corrections

▪ Scientific calculator or Graphing Calculator TI-84, TI-83 or TI-nspire

Practice sets Procedure:

▪ All practice sets are due at the beginning of class.

▪ All practice sets should be done in your notebook or on loose leaf paper. A 3-ring binder or folder is recommended as homework assignments will be collected periodically. Your name, the page number, assigned problems, and date should be written at the top of the page. All corrections should be made as we review the problems in class.

▪ Textbook and your notebook MUST be brought to class every day along with your calculator. All handouts and returned materials should be kept in your folder.

▪ There may be unannounced practice problem checks and notebook quizzes.

Grading:

Grades will be based on accumulated points. Performance is graded on assessments (70%) practice sets (10%), and the final exam (20%). Students should keep track of their grades on the Home Access Center. Credit will NOT be given for late work or answers without supporting work. Work is considered “late” if it is not turned in prior to the assessment covering the material.

Extra Help:

▪ Math teachers are available to help in each lunch study hall period.

▪ Sign up with NHS to receive tutoring during lunch study hall.

▪ I am available for extra help before school by appointment

Make ups:

Time missed from school can never truly be made up; the interaction in the classroom cannot be replicated by doing make-up work. For an excused illness absence, the student is entirely responsible for requesting the make-up work from the teacher(s). Upon returning to class check the calendar for the assignment; Get the class notes from a classmate; If needed ask for help. Seek assistance from your teacher only after you can demonstrate a valid effort to learn the material. Students will be given one school day for each day of excused absence to make up assignments and tests. Additional considerations will be given for students with extended illnesses. In a matter of disciplinary absence it is the suspended student’s responsibility to make up missed work or tests. Work is due on the date of return to school.

If you choose to miss the day of a quiz or test you will be required to make up that grade at the convenience of the teacher. The grade make up may be in a different format from the original test. Expect the new version to be more challenging and either and essay, verbal, or project oriented. If you know that you will be absent the day of a test, arrange to take it before you leave. THERE SHOULD BE NO REASON TO MISS TEST DAYS. The teacher reserves the right to change this due to extenuating circumstances. All quiz or test grades need to be made up within one week otherwise a zero will be recorded. Do not count on a reminder from the teacher, be RESPONSILBLE.

First Assignment:

Journal what you believe you will learn in Geometry this year.

Special Request:

Boxes of tissue, glue sticks, scotch tape, and painters tape are always appreciated!!!
