HABITAT PREFERENCES

o Whitetail Deer o Forest/river bottom dwelling species: Thick, brush, secondary tree growth with a thick understory. Most river bottom areas of Nebraska. Typically venture into open areas only after dark.

o Mule Deer o Open grasslands with few, if any trees. Generally found throughout central and western Nebraska.

HUNTING SEASONS

o Archery: September 1-December 31* o November Firearm: Saturday closest to November 13th (runs nine days)* o Muzzleloader: December 1-December 31* o Seasons Choice: September 1-January 15* o Permit and stamps must be carried while hunting o See current Big Game Guide for required hunting permits and regulations

*Make sure to check season dates annually

HUNTER EDUCATION

o Firearm Hunter Education required of all hunters, ages 12-29, to hunt deer with a firearm/muzzleloader o Bow Hunter Education required of all hunters, ages 12-29, to hunt deer with bow, crossbow or spear o Proof of completion must be carried while hunting o For More Information on Hunter Education visit

DEER GEAR CHECKLIST: MUST HAVES

Firearm, Bow, Crossbow, Spear, Muzzleloader

Arrows, Bolts, Ammunition Knife Hunter Orange (at least 400 sq. inches to

cover your head, chest and back)* Fall arrest system, when hunting from

treestand or elevated platform

*for hunting deer under authority of a firearm/muzzleloader permit during a firearm/muzzleloader season
