My World of Work – SDS’s P5- P7 digital serviceParent and carer supporting informationThe interactive tools on myworldofwork.co.uk/ican will help your child to reflect on who they are, what they are good at and what they are proud of.The results of the Animal me and My interests tasks will help your child to complete the All About Me Profile tool. The Profile will capture information about your child’s personality, interests, skills and achievements. This Profile can then be shared with you and their class teacher. Below are a set of activities that pupils can do from home over a period of time to support them with their Career Education and completion of their P7 Profile. Each task is set out like a mini lesson between 20 minutes to 1 hour in duration. For some tasks your child may want time to reflect and go back to add more information to a Profile section. How to access My World of Work-ican:The class teacher will create an account for each childPupil signs in at: myworldofwork.co.uk/icanThere are three interactive tools availableTask 1: Find out your Animal MeDuration: between 20 -30 minutesLearning intention: I will learn about my personality and strengthsShould LIs be included if so should I change the language- what your child will learnPupil clicks on the Animal Me tab and completes the quiz (approximately 5-10 minutes)Read and discuss the results with your child: What animal are they? The Profile on My World of Work ican gives pupils a space to write about themselves, their skills and achievements.Pupil clicks on the Profile tab and views the sections that makes up the ProfileIn the All about me section you will see the quiz results for Animal me and My interests, click the button ‘Write summary’Pupil uses this space to summarise their quiz results and information about them– sentence starters are provided below to help with thisPupil should click on “save summary section” as they write. The subjects I find harder are_____________Anything else you think would be important for your profile ___________________________Task 4: Pupil completes Skills section of their profileDuration: between 40 -60 minutesLearning intention: I will reflect on my Skills and be able to highlight my skills and how I can evidence theseWith children spending most of their time at home just now, they will probably be developing skills in different ways. It is so important that they can see the value of the skills they are developing in any context and capture these in their skills profile.Pupil clicks on Profile tab, scroll down to Skills and then click ‘write summary’Read the description box about skills:Skills are things you learn that help you to do things.You learn new skills every day. This could be in school, at home, or in the activities you do in your spare time.Listening to others in class, making time to do your homework and being part of a sports team are all examples of using your skills.Discuss with your child what skills they develop in school, through hobbies and at home. You might want to provide examples of some of your own skills or possibly think about a friend, a relative or a teacher’s skills to help them understand.Pupil should use this space to summarise their skills and how they have developed them– sentence starters are provided below to help with thisPupil should click on “save summary section” as they write. These can include achievements completed in school, at home or in spare time at clubs etc.Discuss your child’s achievements with them and encourage them to celebrate this success. Remember an achievement does not mean that they got an award, it is moments your child is most proud of.Examples of pupil achievements:Did they complete a task that they thought would be hard to do, but kept going and are proud to have finished it?Did they complete a good piece of project work in school? Maybe an art projectHave they helped-out in the community or in the family?Have they learned a new skill at home e.g. cooked a meal? Baked a cake?Have they got a medal or award for something they are proud of?Pupils may wish to reflect on this section and add more laterTask 7: Sharing their profileDuration: around 10 minutesLearning intention: I will learn how to share my ProfilePlease make sure your child clicks save once summary is completeThe Profile is finished once the All about me, Skills and Achievements sections have been completed.Your child can now share their profile (through email) and also download this document.Please check with your child’s teacher about how this is best shared. Your child’s new High School teachers will be keen to read this Profile so that they can learn more about your child. ................
