Waltham Leas

Dear Parents/Carers,

Having received guidance yesterday afternoon from the DFE suggesting that schools use Friday 18th December as a Professional Day (INSET), I am informing you that we will close for our Christmas Holiday next Thursday 17th December; their reasoning is to enable schools not to be involved in Track and Trace after December 23rd.

As Friday is a training day, no work will be set for the children - and quite honestly, I think they have worked really hard this term and deserve a day to be children and to get excited about all things to do with Christmas (snow would be good!).

Without tempting fate, I consider us to be extremely lucky so far in not having to isolate any classes, and feel that our school procedures have helped play a part in this. With your continued support around following Tier 3 guidance when your children are not in school and not sending children to school if they are ill, we anticipate getting through to next week with all children and staff, fit and well.

Please follow this guidance on reporting suspected cases after Thursday 17th December:

• If your child shows COVID symptoms from 3.30pm Thursday (17th) evening to Saturday (19th) 3.30pm (48 hours) you must seek a test and inform school using the covid@  email address. At all times seek advice from the NHS 119 helpline. We will then inform the class via text that there is a symptomatic child and ask parents to be vigilant to symptoms. Emails will be checked periodically throughout these 48 hours.

• If symptoms appear after 3.30 pm on Saturday i.e. more than 48 hours since being in school, the school should not be contacted but instead follow contact tracing instructions provided by NHS Test and Trace.

• If it is your child that is displaying COVID symptoms, a test must be completed as quickly as possible, isolating your immediate family. Test results have been coming in quite quickly but this is dependent on demand at any given time. Once you have been told the result of your test you must inform the school.

• If the test is positive, we will seek advice from NE Lincs Public Health and all identified contacts will be informed and you will probably be asked to isolate.

School has been asked to support and assist in identifying close contacts and advising on self-isolation for the first 6 days after teaching ends.

On a lighter note, and not being able to do our usual Christmas productions and Church visits, I hope that the class performances posted on dojo have helped in keeping you in touch with school life - keep watching as not all of them are on there yet.

We are also looking forward to our virtual whole school assembly next Monday morning with the Rev Rachel Fowler making a guest appearance.

Thank you for your continued support in helping keep everyone in the Waltham Leas Family safe and we wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas.

Mrs Rigg
