TV Week 3: Studio Set Up and Export a Short Video

|What are we doing in the studio? (TBA Studio Site) |

You will learn how to prepare the stage, microphones, and cameras for a TV show.

● Demonstrate how to carefully set up a TV stage.

● Show how to properly mic someone.

● Show how to move and focus a camera to properly frame the talent.

|What are we doing in class? (5-8 pm, room 2409) |

During class, you will take a quiz and learn to publish your video that you made last week.

● Take a Quiz: Editing a sequence of shots with Final Cut Pro.

● Publish your video

○ Show how to properly export and “center-punch” a video for broadcast TV and the web.

○ Write an engaging three-sentence description .

|When is the assignment due? How will it be graded? (50 pts) |

Due: End of class

Grading:

● Studio (50 pts): Grades are based on participation.

● In-class week 2 project (50 pts)

○ Video is exported properly

○ No grammar or spelling errors.

○ The following six questions are answered in third person with only three sentences: who, what, where, when, why, and how.

Exporting Video for TV - Cheat Sheet

|How do I export my video? Watch this tutorial or read the following. |

● Export - Move the video out of Final Cut Pro.

a. Select your sequence in the browser.

b. File > Export > Using QuickTime Conversion

c. Select your folder. Remember where you save your work!

d. Title your work using the following convention: lpc_yourtitle1.mov

e. Remember the title of your work!

f. Options > Video Settings >

i. Compression Type > DV/DVCPRO NTSC

ii. Quality > Best

iii. OK

g. Video Size

i. Click the pull down menu next to “Compressor Native”

ii. Pick the resolution that matches your video “VGA” or “640 x 480”

iii. OK

h. Sound Settings

i. Format > AAC

ii. Quality > Best

iii. OK

i. Prepare of Internet Streaming is unchecked.

j. OK

k. If you do not have .mov at the end of your title, be sure “hide extension” is unchecked.

l. Save

● Upload to YouTube - Get your video on to YouTube.

○ Log in to your YouTube page.

○ Click the upload button.

○ Find and select the video that you just exported in your folder. (See above steps.) Do not select your Final Cut Pro file that ends in “fcp.” You must select the file that you just exported.

● Embed into Weebly - Get your video onto your webpage.

○ Find and copy the embed code for your YouTube video.

○ Log in to . Username and password are lpcstripped

○ Find and select your webpage.

○ Drag “custom html” into your page.

○ Click on the text and paste your YouTube embed code.

○ Publish
