First United Methodist Church

Of Owasso, Oklahoma

Strategic Plan

Vision Statement

The First United Methodist Church of Owasso is committed to God’s great commission: to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ. We will present Christ to our community so we can all find spiritual, emotional, social and physical wholeness. Our leaders and members will clearly, effectively and visibly communicate a Christ-centered life.

Mission Statement

In order to achieve this vision, our mission will be to:

• Pray, invite, visit, inform and be involved in the task of evangelism

• Respond to local mission opportunities

• Support ministries of the United Methodist Church which lead us beyond our local community

• Provide and maintain professional ministerial and administrative staff, supported by volunteers

• Design programs to meet the needs and desires of our community

• Provide adequate facilities to accommodate the ministries of the church

• Enhance our internal and external communications, providing information in a clear and timely manner

We will know our vision and mission are being fulfilled when our community knows who we are, where we are, why we are here, and when people are led to Christ.

To this end, we are committed to becoming a fruitful congregation as defined in the book, The Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations by Bishop Robert Schnase. These include:

1. The Practice of Radical Hospitality – our church promotes the active desire to invite, welcome, receive, and care for those who are strangers that they may find a spiritual home.

2. The Practice of Passionate Worship – our church draws people to God through worship by deepening our understandings and relationships with Christ, and transforming our lives as disciples while growing in the image of Christ.

3. The Practice of Intentional Faith Development – our church offers quality learning experiences that help people understand Scripture, faith, and life in the supportive nurture of caring relationships.

4. The Practice of Risk-Taking Mission and Service – our church focuses on servant opportunities that make a positive difference in the lives of others for the purposes of Christ.

5. The Practice of Extravagant Generosity – our church promotes generosity to make a positive difference for the purposes of Christ and to align our lives with God’s Will.
