Stonewall FFA Wins State FFA Veterinary Science Event

STILLWATER, Okla. — Members of the Stonewall FFA Chapter won first-place honors in the state FFA veterinary science career development event during the 2023 Oklahoma FFA Interscholastics at Oklahoma State University on April 29.

Team members were Kolten Romines, Levi Hayes, Sammi Addison and Kayden Alford. Romines placed second, Hayes placed fourth and Addison placed fifth in the contest. The Stonewall agricultural education instructors and FFA advisors is Micah Alford.

This team will represent Oklahoma in the veterinary science CDE at the National FFA Convention in October.

The veterinary science CDE is a competitive event testing the participants’ ability to perform practical veterinary assisting activities, as well as identify breeds, parasites and equipment. Participants also complete a written exam and respond to scenario questions about current topics in the veterinary industry.

The OSU Ferguson College of Agriculture hosted the contest. Dr. Phil and Linnie Berkenbile will provide a cash award to the team for expenses related to the national contest and will provide a scholarship to the high individual.

FFA is an integral part of the Agricultural Education division in the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education system.
